I have a million tape decks lying around my basement.
I suppose I'll just try DIY-ing it. :idk:
This is actually a pretty awesome idea. I think I'm going to pass on the TE-1 and put that money toward a tape deck and a few pedals that I was planning on buying

Don't know why buy their sale page is all secretive and hidden. Probably because of the price.
Shit.
What the hell's up with the price for that breakout box, too?
Every time I see that kind of thing, I really want to see a gutshot, because half the time the price is based on a load of bullshit.

Well, to be fair he's gotta start with one of those Marantz field recorders, which can't be a cheap beginning from a production standpoint. :idk:

Well, I'm not freaking out about the price of the delay itself. I get it, looking at the modifications he has to make to them and all, it totally makes sense to price them that high. Just look at what Seppukus go for.
But, I dunno about that switch.

I bought one, it took like 7-8 months, and I sold it the day I got it. Not because it was bad or broken. I just found myself wanting the 800 bucks over the actual delay. I think I can't see the purpose of spending that much after finding some really good bucket brigade analog delays. Plus if I really wanted a tape delay, I think I would go back to the space echo.

I don't understand the price for the breakout box but I skipped since I wanted it for synths and didnt need that

Where I'm confused and didn't realize on my initial look at the thing is the "at the end of the tape, have to rewind" - last thing I want to deal with on a tape echo is worrying about how long I've been playing for!

My pedalboard costs approximately 191 Metal Zones.

According to forum posts, there are a whole bunch of factors that affect it.
If you use a 60 min tape, it could last for 60 min or it could go as far as 2 hours depending on how the speed's set.
Changing out the tape should be about as quick and easy as adjusting the knobs between songs.

Yea, that's part of the hell - "am I about to run out" isn't even a fixed amount.

But I'm also not quite understanding the maker's slagging on the tape loop mechanisms in other units.

There's no cartridge in a Space Echo, and the loop lasts for 300+ hours. Even in a 'plex, the carts themselves rarely failed - I rewound them for folks for ages when Harris-Teller stopped carrying them for a few years.

And anybody who can cut a loop can make another one in a very, very short amount of time!
