advice for a tremolo virgin

Post by rabbit »

hey there. this threads all a bit of a pipe dream at the moment as im broke + unemployed at the moment but ive wanted to try my hand with a tremolo pedal for a long time so i figure doing a lil research couldnt do any harm.
so basically what im wondering is if anyone has any recommendations or warnings about tremolo pedals and what to look out for.

What's your price range?
I hate saying that because I prefer going for the pedal based on features/sound, but some people are on tight budgets.

I'd love to be more helpful but there are two other threads on tremolos right below yours.
Also, the search is a wonderful thing. ;)

Here are some links to previous trem threads. Read these and if you've still got questions, I'm sure everybody would be more than happy to help.

There's always room for more tremolololo love...I'm entering into another trem kick myself after listening to the new black keys (hello EQD hummingbird  )

Personal favorite: Catalinbread Semaphore. Also check the Dr. Scientist Tremolessence.

They've both got volume knobs to correct any perceived volume drops (or for use as a boost)
and very handy shape knobs let you um...shape things.

Personally I hate it when they have accessible volume controls, it's just one more thing that effects your volume that can be bumped.

Right now my main trem is a Fulltone Supa trem. I has a internal boost/volume, it has half time and it has a hard switch that maxes the intensity. I also have a Tone Factor Sugar Baby, good fender style trem, great sound. And I have a boss which I modded to fix the volume issue. I like Amp trems so my prefs are in that direction in terms of sound and wave shape.

Has internal depth and volume control. Wave toggle on front and speed as well. So tiny and so much. Cheaper than most.

the internal depth is a massive pain in the ass. i like the wave switch.

the internal depth control was what really put me off the lovepedal trem... at first I thought I would be able to survive but it just wasn't gonna happen..

Do you want real choppy square wave trem like a Valco or softer BFDeluxe sine wave? Symmetrical or not?
Really, nothing sounds like good tube trem in an old amp, but lots of options are available. Isn't there a BYOC?
Good deals done with all these guys

Do you mean the lack of accessibility? I personally don't find that to be an issue. Then again, I usually use one setting out of my pedals until recently.
