Re: EHX Synth 9

I cant remember what i paid for mine. It wasmt a packet, but I didnt totally bottom out on the price when i sold it a couple of years back.
The rotary setting on it was reasonable as well.
The wahs were shit though. Itt would have been way cooler if they were filters of a more filtery variety.

I think I'm done with this series. I have the Mel 9 & super ego, they're a lot of fun but I want some crazy shit out of ehx.

Well, I was. Apparently $hark wasnt.
It was a good pedal, that preset particularly.

Not as good as the real thing but if youre playing space drug music it put this nice jazy filter over everything and you probably didnt care anyway.

Itd be nice to see moog shoot back with something that simulated specifically a taurus bass or sub phatty in a pedal with some parameters to tweek, but thatll never happen.
If anyone at ehx reads this though, as theyre more likley to ape a moog product than moog are, youd probably sell the shit out of those. Make it black and stick some filters on it.
$$ bills y'all.

I have the Space Station and the ex-7 and fwiw, I'd rather have the ex-7 preset in a mini. Size is a premium on my board, for one. For two, the ex-7 preset is pretty much what I use the space station for. That floaty synthy delay thing. For three, I never use the expression pedal on my Space Station. Mini size would work perfect.

That'd be rad in one of those mini wah enclosures as a compromise.
Or, just exp control option for those interested.
Digitech dudes reading this?

Not kidding.

Those little DOD expression and volume pedals are so hot. I would love to ditch the huge Space Station format too, but I couldn't get by on that one EX-7 patch.

I think it would be great in an enclosure like the Ricochet. Unfortunately, Tom the Digitech Rep has stated multiple times it probably will never happen. They have bitter memories of the SS at Digitech HQ

Yeah thats fair enough.
Its 2017, though, surely all of that can be miniaturized?

That saddens me greatly.
What was their beef with it? Too frustrating a project?
What was the outcome of that petition to bring it back?

Also I love how this thread is about Digitech now and not EHX.

Haha, yes! Another successful hijacking, bwahahaha

They lost a lot money on it, couldn't give them away, it was so unsuccessful at the time. It was only later in the aftermarket that they became popular.

Plus, to bring it back, because of the chip the algorithms were written to (I think this is correct), they can not just port the algorithms to modern programming languages. So they would have to completely rewrite all of them on modern platforms which would be quite an investment.

Given the losses they sustained from the original version, they are inclined not to touch it. Think of it like that horrific alcoholic ex-girlfriend that sucks your bank account and heart dry and then returns a decade later, sober.

To get back to EHX, I enjoy Mel9 every time I play and bought a Synth9 out of curiosity. We will see.

This is now the general synth pedal thread.

That is a fucking fantastic analogy.
I totally understand their position then. Didnt know about the data being specific to the hardware, that does kind of suck.
ARE SPINCHIPS THE SOLUTION?
I know they arent, but itd be interesting to see how they may factor into modern takes on those old future sounds.

Yes! I am eagerly awaiting your review!

Yeah, Tom@DigiTech has continuously shot down the Space Station reissue talks for reasons stated by manymanyhahalol. I'm not sure if the spinchip can do it justice, but whatever tech they are using for the newest Whammy probably has the cojones. A future Space Station would pretty much have to be its own thing, which (to me) is more exciting than a straight port/reissue. :excellent:

I like the Ricochet-size idea. I was merely lamenting all the other Space Station patches I would miss if I had to just use the EX-7.

Echo what Brands said on page one: PF has some dope cheesy sounds that are ripe for effecting. Octaver and Synthonizer.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.
