Let's talk about putting a delay up in yo' guitar...
Probably an old trick, but it's the first time I've seen someone do this.

A luthier friend of mine is working on putting a DM-2 inside a guitar, I'll post it here if he lets me photograph it.

Easy diy version would be to put an expression pot in your guitar and use it to control a delay or other things on the floor. Minimal mods required.

If you wanted to hollow out a cavity for FX, those Mooers would be a good first choice. There was a company making really small DIY modules (based in Massachusetts?) online some time ago. Their stuff is also quite compact and inexpensive.
Although stompbox delays weren't available yet, Vox was putting multiple effects in their guitars almost 50 years ago. The Ultra-Sonic, Starstream, and Viper modules had tremolo, dirt, and a treble boost.

I had a Starstream XII. And also put a PT2399 delay cirquit into a Epiphone 335-copy for a friend. The problem I encountered was that it is really difficult to shield the effects good. Guitars are picking up any electromagnetic interference. The Starstream would pick up Mexican and Russian AM-radio randomly and the delayed Epi also did the Tesla spirit radio thing. Sometimes cool noise but mostly annoying.

At first I was like "good for that guy playing a Squier on TV and not giving a fuck" and then I saw the extra knob and realized he probably didn't want to hack up a better guitar.

GFS sells a thing. I had one but never got it to work.

I think I had an earlier version of that, which worked fine.

Re: Let's talk about putting a delay up in yo' guitar...
Carbon Copy would be a perfect candidate for this due to the low mA required. Depending on the guitar it may need extra routing. I have thought a lot about doing this or even a simple fuzz circuit. I hate the idea of having to change batteries in the guitar though. Had an idea to install an additional jack for power and running a detachable cable to a 9 volt attached to the guitar strap. Actually might do that trick if I end up installing a Sustainiac in my new guitar build. Still open to adding a fuzz or delay circuit to my guitar down the road.

When I've put a circuit in a guitar, I've always included a 9v on/off switch. If I was going to put something power hungry, I guess I'd take the time to route a battery cavity and put a holder/cover in.
