They're certainly not in the running for my favorite amp company but the JCM800 is fantastic.
Also, Les Paul, equally rad. You're just mad they're not boutique enough for you to build your Instabrand on.

JCM800 is one of the best amps out there IMO. I remember seeing Leeway in 1989 at the Ritz in NYC and they had two stacks, one for each guitarist. Easily the best guitar sound I have ever heard, even to this day. The sheer power was breathtaking. Influenced me for life. But hey, I'm not trying to impose my belief system here. Just letting people know about a $30 sleeper.

That's exactly what I'm saying. If you fall for a piece of gear the minute you plug it in, it's more than likely that you're pretty biased from the get go.BossMann73 wrote:I've been thru dozens of boutique dirts in the last two years and very few hit me from the first plug in like the MD-2.actualidiot wrote:Could it be that your love for Boss is clouding your judgement just a little?
I'm all for good, cheap gear so that's not what I'm against here. Also my mixer is a Boss KM-60, and it does delicious drive, so I'm not anti Boss neither.

Diffrent strokes for different folks I guess. I was not predisposed to like it just cause it's a Boss. After all, I said the ODB-3 wasn't that great and that's their dedicated bass dirt pedal. I fell for the MD-2 because my ear has become so tuned for the sounds I want to hear and it had it right from the start. But I can't control your beliefs about my motivations it so it's all good. I'm glad you're liking the mixer.

I don't have any beliefs about your motivation, just mere speculation. I do, however, find it odd that you seem to like almost any Boss pedal that you get your hands on (except for the one marketed towards what you're actually using it for) even though they're entirely different pieces of kit. I'm not gonna get into it with you, these are just my 2 cents, and you do, of course, have all the right in the world to like and dislike whatever you so desire.BossMann73 wrote:actualidiot wrote:That's exactly what I'm saying. Re: Another Boss bass dirt.
Fair enough. Just for the record, I bought a ton more than I listed (I was just listing the dirts, not the modulation pedals). If it helps at all, I was underwhelmed by many of them. But I'm not gonna make a post about a pedal I don't like. Anyhow, let's agree not to get into it. It doesn't really serve much purpose. Thanks for your contribution in either case.actualidiot wrote:I don't have any beliefs about your motivation, just mere speculation. Yes you are. You signed up to a board you thought was full of snobs with the name "BossMann" for one specific reason.BossMann73 wrote:But hey, I'm not trying to impose my belief system here.

I mean, I'm a snob, but that's just me.
I love Toneczar just as much as I love Boss, but Cornish is where I draw the line. Although I have often ponder that fuzz he makes...
My favorite dirt from Boss is the OD3. It's similar sounding to one of the Darkglass pedals IMO, but if you combine them that's where the heavies come in.
I also dig the new TC line. Just got the Rusty Fuzz and for 50 bucks new, it's pretty awesome.

Isn't Cornish the dude who basically sells a rehoused Boss DD-2 with a few mods for insane prices?

Re: Another Boss bass dirt.
Oh god yeah it's a nasty pedal. I always have it post filter/synth/octave to add its nasty higher frequency distortion, bringing harmonics from the synth pedals so much further out than they were ever supposed to be. But yeah I pretty much max the gain, have the bass and treble both on 9 o clock and adjust level and clean/dist blend to taste.BossMann73 wrote:Thanks for the post. Perhaps I just don't know yet how to dial it in, but I find the gain knob doesn't cut thru a mix unless I turn it up to a level I'm not really comfortable with. I tend to play milder OD these days so perhaps that's why. I don't think the ODB-3 shines at low gain, but I am very happy that it works for you.chrisdermo wrote:I love my ODB-3 on bass. It's been my bass dirt for 14 years.
EDIT - 3 O CLOCK !!! Not 9 o clock

Yeah I think he's famous for rehousing pedals/boards for the super massive touring musicians. Gilmour, etc.Eivind August wrote:Isn't Cornish the dude who basically sells a rehoused Boss DD-2 with a few mods for insane prices?

Yea but he has some "original" stuff as well I believe. I mean...maybe? Does he? I actually don't know. LOLEivind August wrote:Isn't Cornish the dude who basically sells a rehoused Boss DD-2 with a few mods for insane prices?
