Another Boss bass dirt.

Post by BossMann73 »

Picked up an MD-2 mega distortion for l$30 off Reverb just as an experiment. Wasn't expecting it to blow away the majority of every bass dirt I've owned and loved before, but truth be told, it did. Absolutely insanely great dirt for bass. All gain ranges covered, extreme low end (actually adds lows to my signal), super touch sensitive and a beautiful harmonic crunch like the best JCM800 I've ever heard. There's a video online with it on bass, but it sounds nothing like real life.

I call buying used Boss pedals "candy buying" since they're so cheap. In the past two weeks I've bought a bunch. DIrts include ODB-3, ML-2, MZ-2, MT-2 and MD-2. Except for, ironically enough, the ODB-3, they all kick ass on the bass (for those that didn't read the other thread, the MT-2 and Mantic Vitriol are kissing cousins...they sound identical). But there's something special about the MD-2. Y'all should buy one just for fun. Like I said above, the one I bought was $30 shipped from Reverb.

I love my ODB-3 on bass. It's been my bass dirt for 14 years.

Could it be that your love for Boss is clouding your judgement just a little?

Possibly, but I don't think so. I've been thru dozens of boutique dirts in the last two years and very few hit me from the first plug in like the MD-2. A few did for sure, but they weren't better than the MD-2. Equal, but not better. I am just saying here that for the price, it can't be beat. I'm sure a few ILF people are not as lucky as I am with regards to disposable income and I'm just trying to suggest a cheap but great pedal.

$30 might be cheap to you, but that is several hours wage for lots of us. Point being, please be a little more aware that not everyone considers $30 to be candy. I bought a pack of Dentyne Ice from the vending machine at work yesterday which cost $1. That's my idea of candy prices.

Thanks for the post. Perhaps I just don't know yet how to dial it in, but I find the gain knob doesn't cut thru a mix unless I turn it up to a level I'm not really comfortable with. I tend to play milder OD these days so perhaps that's why. I don't think the ODB-3 shines at low gain, but I am very happy that it works for you. :)

Please refer to the post above yours in which I addressed that very issue.

Please refer to your first post where you said it all proud of yourself. Your arrogance is sickening tbh. Now, go ahead and play the victim card. :snax:
