staples brand chair came. first step was the arms. 100% optional. skipped and totally satisfied, the seat is very comfy and the back actually helps with my posture.

Not to put you off buying it but my experience with ikea chairs has not been great. The one I have now was more or less the same price range. The few first weeks it was not too bad, but now all moving and swiveling parts are loose and squeek like hell. And it kills my back.

I've been meaning to buy an Okamura chair for about a year but had other priorities (and a baby). It's a Japanese brand that makes a lot of model of ergonomical chairs, in the same quality range as Herman Miller (Aeron, etc.) and similar brands. I had an Aeron at work for a few years, it was nice. Had an Okamura at another company, nice too. And now it's another one (forgot the brand but similar quality). If you can, go to a showroom and try the chairs. Also, several brands/models have different size/heights, it's important to get the one that works best for you.
