Recommend me a synth
I am influenced by the sounds on this album by David Bazan
http://www.stereogum.com/1925498/stream ... um-stream/
Would like some not too expensive recommendations for synths

I think you could cop these sounds with an all volca setup: FM, Sample, Bass. If you want a bit more flexibility maybe replace the bass with a microbrute?

Everything I watch on YouTube save the knobs demo with the Volca synths seems to devolve into repetitive techno garbage

You know how every guitar related demo video features shitty blues riffs?the5chord wrote:Everything I watch on YouTube save the knobs demo with the Volca synths seems to devolve into repetitive techno garbage

Re: Recommend me a synth
Both the sample and FM are really versatile. Replaing the bass with a microbrute sounds like a good idea though

Re: Recommend me a synth
It is super easy to make repepitive techno garbage with these, but that's because it's easy to make anything with these.
The FM is my new all-time favorite drone synth. It gets super harsh and has ridiculous envelopes. Whenever I play with the volca sample I get drums sounds that feel like weird Neu! b-sides. The microbrute is crazy flexible, it'll do anything you want except polyphony. It's about you, not the EDM enthusiasts on youtube.

Well, the price of new microbrute+fm+sample is in the range of a used op-1. And it can do loads and loads and loads of things

Re: Recommend me a synth
What keyboard would y'all recommend for with the O Coast? Seems like the perfect tool for getting into synths, not knowing what I'm doing, being frustrated and eventually figuring it out.

Re: Recommend me a synth
keystep.
Or any cheap m-audio one (picked up an axiom 25 at the swap for $20...worth it for that price).
But keystep for the arp and sequencer if going new (unless you got the cash for a futureretro 512). The price, easy CV, simple design, and features of the keystep makes those more traditional ones (m-audio, akai) not worth it for the 0-coast unless you find them sub $30. At $120, I don't know if keystep can be beat.
SQ-1 is good too if you want to go keyboardless for a while.
