Sorry for the GAS attack neon, just a heads up that it's a special delay/reverb that showed up while you were away. I actually replaced mine with an El Cap (which I'm hesitant to suggest as you've had 2(?) before)

Are you playing guitar? Bass? Bari? What's your axe collection like now?

I've had 2 but I got rid of them out of financial necessity. I played one the other day at a music store and fell in love with it again.

Right now, I don't have a working guitar haha. But its a Jaguar, whenever I finish it. I've been really tempted to snag one of those new offset series mustangs but it would be cheaper just to finish this guitar.

I want one of those new blackout Bari jazzys though

The music store near me has the olive single coil model. I might go play it through some dirt today and see if I feel compelled to put it on layaway.

Also, what store in town carries Strymon and has offset Fenders? I feel like I'm missing out on one of these places getting their shit together.

About the only place I frequent is Guitar Pickers on Kerr, and that's not very often. Pretty cool spot if you haven't checked it out yet.

I have a Aviator and a Mini 101. The mini should be plenty sound for any gig. I play grunge basically with lots of synth effects and octave down. I run it at 25 or 50 watt and dont really need to get about 10 oclock on the gain.

I cant see getting the 45 though. The 101 has just enough voice control and eq to get a great tone from any speaker cab or two. I just feel like Id have to have an extra eq, maybe a low gain overdrive to use the 45. And with its large powersupply, doesnt overall seem smaller.

Probably be loud enough for most gigs mic'd, but might be pushing it.

I have a 201, being a dad. Bought it for weight reasons to replace a marshall superlead. Its great.

One thing i dont like about the 45 and the ehx pedal amps is you need a bulky odd voltage external power supply rattling around.

After my amp failed at a gig, I'm pretty certain I'm gonna get something like the microblock as an emergency cab driver. I reckon something driving an actual guitar speaker would sound better than a DI option, the microblock is miniscule and fairly affordable. Only other option is one of the hotone heads but the quilter is probably more reliable. The ehx cab drivers have shitty reps, don't they? Has anyone had one die on them?

If running your cab is a necessity, then another option
might possibly be a Boss Katana 100w head. It has the
clean to it, but supposedly scales and reacts to volume
in a live-band setting in a similar way to a tube amp.

All conjecture and personal perspective. Until you try
for yourself to see if it works with your gear/ideas.


The price isn't too bad either.

(But maybe the Boss Katana is taking your "dad" jam
into more of a "teenage son" direction?)

I dont know about reliable, but I have a Hotone as well. It served the purpose I got it for, to fit everything in a carry on bag, out of town jam with old friends. It got loud enough for that, but was largely an acoustic jam, with jazz drums.

And that was turned up fairly high.

The Quilter 101 would destroy that. Of course, it is much larger. Id guess, judging from the wattage rating on the Aviator, the 101, (both I have) and the 45, the 45 would destroy the Hotone too. It is after all 5 watts.

Never had any trouble with the Quilters. I would also brag on them for how trouble free they are...twice, at a gig, and a jam with bad power, that was causing crazy noise in friends tube amps, Quilter didnt care. I keep a Furman handy, but usually in the car, but the Quilter Aviator was seemingly immune.

I think this thread has sold me on the 101. I do see a used 201 for the same price as a new 101 on reverb though...

Has anyeone tried a Quilter up against a Crate Powerblock?

Considering getting a small SS head as backup for my Traynor and as a grab'n'go amp.

I have not a/bd a Crate Power block and a Quilter, but I long ago owned the powerblock. Used it as a backup amp. It didnt really sound like much, just like a power amp. I imagine now if I had it, I could use a Sansamp or little Zoom modeller and make it sound good, but the Quilters sound like full amps alone. It was also not as loud.
