Quilter?
Ok, so in my dadly quest for a lightweight loud clean pedal platform I've basically settled on running a quilter amp into my Dominion cab. Originally I was torn between the 201 and 101 but now I see they have a 45 watt micro amp. The 45 is around $150 new. Is 45 watts through a 2x12 gonna give me enough clean headroom to be even remotely loud without squishing out on me? Or should I go ahead and spring for the higher power amp?
Also I see the 201 and 101 are basically the same price on reverb right now. Any reason I shouldn't get the 201?
I'm basically going to be running a Mini/Fuck as my always on OD and I want something neutral as fuck.

Re: Quilter?
I've been impressed with those Quilters. Can't speak from personal experience with the micro amp, but...
45 watts is loud. If you want clean headroom though, might be pushing it. With a tube amp that can be super nice, but I'm not sure how great that solid state clipping would sound if you have to push it to get the volume you want. Plus, back to the original desire for a clean platform... I'd maybe err on the side of caution and go for more watts. Total conjecture though, so hopefully someone else will chime in.

Re: Quilter?
My current amp setup is a 30w tuber through a 2x12 and my amp is a little hairy, I'd imagine 45w tube would be a little hairy wide open. IMO the mini/fuck thrive on working with a breaking up amp though

Yeah but I plan on using some delay and verb, plus more fuzz. I feel like things might go from "gazey wash" to "indecipherable mess of noises" real quick. And not in the good ILF way. I dunno. I don't think I'd have upgrade at any point with the 101 or 201. It might be cheaper in the long run to spend more money now. Of course that's what I tell myself like, constantly.

Re: Quilter?
Yo so I have the 101 and it is pleeenty loud for home use but I noticed when playing with other people i had to use the 50w setting (i use 2w at home) and open up the high-cut knob more than usual for it to keep up, which it did really well but yeah, i think if it was any lower wattage or less tweakable i would be significantly less happy with it. It's an awesome amp, though, I have no plans to switch it out.
Those amps don't do the same kind of solid state clipping that other amps do because of the gain stage so I wouldn't worry about that, but they can sound the same at any volume so more watts would be a wise choice.
Thing to keep in mind is that you might like the amp but not like how your favourite dirt plays with it. Rats are so good with Quilters, though.

Incidentally i got one of these after getting the Quilter and it slays, so, +1.ThurberMingus wrote:You should get an Avalanche Run

Re: Quilter?
My only experience of quilters is seeing deerhoof use them at a show and they sounded really good with a bunch of fuzz pedals and clean. I'd probably not go with the 45W though that seems a bit small for a solid state.

The ehx 44 mag might be a good option ...neonblack wrote:Ok, so in my dadly quest for a lightweight loud clean pedal platform I've basically settled on running a quilter amp into my Dominion cab. Quiet, reasonably priced, and good tone? That checks a lot of boxes in my own dad-tone quest.

Re: Quilter?
the quilter is definitely the best bang for your buck and sounds pretty good. 45w through 2x12 should be plenty for home jamming. I have trouble staying quiet at 25w in my apt. glad you're rocking again man

Re: Quilter?
Sorry for the GAS attack neon, just a heads up that it's a special delay/reverb that showed up while you were away. I actually replaced mine with an El Cap (which I'm hesitant to suggest as you've had 2(?) before)
