Not as sonically dense as the last stuff he's put out, but this record (esp the lyrics) hits like a punch to the guts.

Always loved Phil Elvrum and Genevieve's music (and artwork) equally, was very sad when she died. I heard that first song, might give the album a try eventually, but it will be a hard listen.

mmm I always thought that band was one of those 90s Kranky's band.

Never been able to get into anything Phil has ever done, this included, but I do really appreciate the context of this album. Less than a year after Nick Cave releases Skeleton Tree there's another album about the death of a close loved one. Let's hope this isn't the fashion and artists don't start killing family members for artistic credit.
