A high gain fuzz with lots of bass (lows) but crunchy some cool texture (but open sounding) for guitar.

Made me think of an algal bloom with more low end and gain... which is the doom bloom I suppose? Haven't tried that one though

Doom Bloom is weird, it isn't as gainy as you'd think.
It sort of lets everything breathe, on the right settings.
If you were trying to blow up your power section or stack it you'd get gainier, but I found it wasn't a wall of punishing gain.
I want to try the Sonic Bloom, though.
Who has the two in one Doom/Sonic?

The MFZ1 clone from Chicago Stompworks I have sounds Muffy I'd say. Like a punkier, less gainy (op amp) version maybe? It's been a while since I've played a real Muff, but the MFZ1 made me sell my Basic Audio Tri/Ram, because it sounded too dense and creamy by comparison. Awesome, but not really for me. Never tried any other MFZ1s, but I'd like to have a go at building that BYOC mini version (Li'l Black Key).

Tried an Op Amp muff (w/ tone bypass)? Or maybe a muff with a different type of tone stack like the (bass/treble) Baxandalls on the Manx Loaghtan or vfe Fiery Red.

For non muffs that gave me that wall of fuzz, I liked the Devi Hyperion and EQD Tone Reaper.

TAFM

On what settings? I still haven't really figured out how to use the TAFM on guitar, so I haven't really figured out how to use the fuzz.

I usually keep my Buzzz set like a Muff, though (gain cranked, silicon diodes, starve around 11:00).

DBA Fuzz War (the second version, at least) is a Muff without diodes in the first clipping stage. Apocalypse has a Fuzz War among a few others (I know there's an Octave Clang in there and a couple of others).
I've never been able to work out a V1 Fuzz War clone, unfortunately, so I still don't really know what it sounds like.

W&C White Elk is an Elk Sustainar clone (PNP Big Muff), AFAIK (they sanded off the transistor values, from what I've seen in gutshots ).

I mean, it doesn't sound like a Muff, but it does Muffy things for me when I don't want to use a Muff. It fills that same space in my chain. No clean, both fuzz and gain cranked (or close to cranked if I'm being a wimp)

Said twice before but I'll add a +1 to the HM-2. That thing actually kicked a few boutique muffs out of the apartment because it just did what they did much better. Weird because it's not known as a fuzz, but it gets very muffy.

The Boss Power Driver is a cheap alternative. There's also the DOD Classic Fuzz and the Ibanez 850 Overdrive/Fuzz Mini.

ok don't mean to brag, just sayin' - i have three green russians, two tall font one bubble. i'd take one tall font out (the one w/ replaced knobs), reason i have two, but my vote would be for the TAFM. i my TAFM.

oh yeah i have a harmonic percolator too. it sits on a shelf. probably won't let it go though.

Harmonic Percolator can get pretty saturated, muff-style, but never gets lost in the mix.

It might be just the Fredric HP clone that I have but the attack and texture it produces is very different to a Muff. The frequency response diverges from a Muff style circuit too and I think there is some attenuation of the bass. Definitely creates a very distinctive sound though.
