NEW GEAR DAY - LOOK AT ME

Post by wdinc01 »

Quick backstory - Some asshole broke into my car a few weeks ago and stole my Jazz bass (lesson 1: don't leave valuables in your car, especially if you live in an area with a lot of foot traffic and low lifes). Made a police report, keeping an eye on Craigslist, but without a serial number (lesson 2: keep your serial numbers somewhere you can access anytime), the police aren't able to help much and there's a million pawn shops around here, so checking every one of them every day would be a full time job. It's especially disheartening because I've had it for 8 years, it was the first nice piece of gear I bought, paid with my own hard earned money, and its a beautiful bass. I'm still determined to find it, and I'm convinced one day I'll get it back.

Thankfully/smartly, I have renter's insurance, so they gave me a payout for the equivalent of a Fender Elite V (that's lesson 3: get insurance on your shit). Before I went out and got an Elite V (which is a seriously nice bass, but one fret short of what I like to use), I went to Bass Central to try out different basses just to cement my decision. I was never one for EBMM basses, even though they are incredibly nice, but I've never liked any Stingray 5s I've played enough to get one (a combination of feel, tone, and having a pickguard that covers 75% of the body). Then I decided to try out a Sterling HS, and my god I can't remember the last time I played a bass that just spoke to me like that! The neck is comfortable, as is the body, and the pick ups sound fucking MEAN! If it was a five string, I would have bought it right then and there (natural ash and maple? Fuck yes.), but sadly they didn't have one in stock, because EBMM doesn't want my life to be easy and actually discontinued the HS model of Sterlings.

So maybe that backstory wasn't very quick. Sorry ILFBREAUXs. But without further ado, here is the new bass!

The guy on Reverb I bought it off of clearly never played it. It may as well have been straight out of the store. He also had it strung with flats, which actually sounded pretty good, but I've switched over to DR Lo-Riders. Since I got it for a good price, I had money left over, which I used for a new bass head: a Fender Bassman 500

This thing sounds awesome. It's currently running into a Bag End 15, but I'm going to switch that out for a Fender Bassman 4x10 after I sell the current rig! It's not a full blown tube amp, but on the plus side it also doesn't weight 60 pounds, so I guess that's a good trade off

Let's cadavre exquis this thing, then.

Enter: Liam Neeson.

I'll make Pickles my roadie.

And the revenge story is being saved for NEW GEAR DAY PART 2: HIS HEAD IS (LITERALLY) ON A PIKE

Confirmed.

It just hit that my bass is ALMOST the same color as a Meseeks. If I didn't like my pick guard so much, I'd get one that looks like their face

It plays like butter and sounds awesome! Its like a jazz on steroids, only way meaner! I highly recommend trying one out if you ever come across one. I know EBMM doesn't push Sterlings as much as their Stingrays (or any other bass model they make, for that matter), but this thing is way more comfortable than a Stingray and I like the tone much much more. Its also nice not having a pickguard cover 3/4s of the body
