I had no idea The Feelies had reunited, and I really only know Crazy Rhythms, but this is rad. Tonebender would be in the ball park, as would some of the mellower fuzz face variants, from what I can hear.
good deals are here.

I just listened to the new album after Dandolin posted a song in the what are you listening to thread. I didn't know they had a new one out either.

It's nice (as are all of thier albums), but I feel in a lot of ways they're recycling old themes and ideas. I'll take what I can get though.

I went looking for shots of their boards and found these:

Don't know what they used to record with on the album, but their live boards don't contain anything too out of the ordinary.

Looks like Mercer might even have an all Boss board. :idk:

That was my first thought as well, though a tonebender could get you close too imo :idk:

That's a great sound! One of the sounds that initially made me love fuzz (the other being more of an aggressive 60s Tone Bender shriek). It's somehow in the gap between Fuzz Face and Tone Bender. I've never tried a Fuzz Face that could get wiry like that without being just a little too fat, but it seems less gainy than a Tone Bender. Whatever they were using, I've seen them a number of times since the 80s, and they tend to use fairly simple equipment and set it very carefully. There is a fair amount of shoegazing and knob twiddling in their shows, but I think that's how they end up with such good sounds. I'd be not at all surprised if it was an FZ-3 into a Fender amp or something like that. But it's more about listening real well to the equipment they have.

More likely something like this than a Fuzz Face. Definitely has Fuzz Unit vibe to it.

Amazing. The question reached Glenn Mercer and he says he only owns a ts808 and a ds1, and it must be one of them (both?)

Awesome. :!!!: Keep in mind that you're asking about a studio track and they're known for using the studio to get sounds as well.

I dunno how many times I've been wondering about an exotic sound and then the guy says either Tube Screamer, Rat, amp, or some bone-simple Boss.

Haha yeah it's surprising what cool tones you can get out of cheap and undesirable gear. Why do I have all this stuff.
