+1 for Fuzz War. Do the muff-thing but not as smooth.
The EQD Acapulco Gold also do the "Wall of Fuzz"-sound, but is more "neutral" than a muff.

Harmonic Percolator can get pretty saturated, muff-style, but never gets lost in the mix.

Is the Blunderbuss have a texture different from the Musket? To my ears when I had the Musket, it sounded like a regular distortion.Brandsmannen wrote:Elements (ask goroth)

If you dislike muffs try a musket/blunderbuss. End all big muffs for me

Haven't tried the musket so I couldn't tell ya. I it a muff that's a tad brighter and has mids if you want.sylnau wrote:Is the Blunderbuss have a texture different from the Musket? To my ears when I had the Musket, it sounded like a regular distortion.Brandsmannen wrote:Elements (ask goroth)

Literally any Devi Ever fuzz. Hyperion, Soda Meiser, Torns Peaker, etc. DBA Apocalypse. TAFM. Boss HM2. Holowon Furr Fuzz. Those are the first I think of that I have owned.

Good to see you buddy
I'm using a Scarab Dlx as my main fuzz and it does a wall of sound thing but is cutting and can also be gatey. It's awesome but it doesn't have the low end of a Muff. Honestly it's not really muffy but it is awesome.

FWIW this is what I thought of the Musket too - it just felt like an Elements with less control and less range.sylnau wrote:Is the Blunderbuss have a texture different from the Musket? To my ears when I had the Musket, it sounded like a regular distortion.Brandsmannen wrote:Elements (ask goroth)

Fuzz factory is more of a pissed off fuzzface though, doesn't get close to sounding remotely muff-like impoGardenoftheDead wrote:HM-2, Fuzz Factory, Algal Bloom from the things I've used personally
But good call on the HM-2. Those get overlooked a lot when the subject is NOT metal-related. Another Boss, super cheap, and surprisingly usefull for nasty muffish stuff that sound like the exact opposite of what you'd expect from a pedal that's called a "bass overdrive": ODB-3. I wouldn't say it's in the same league as stuff from w&c, blackout, ss/bs, dr Scientist,...But to be fair, neither is the price tag
Like I said in that other thread, the Musket I had was perfect for a wide range of typical muff applications, from Gilmour to stoner/sludge stuff. Like you, I'm not much of a muff guy though, I'll take a tonebender/superfuzz variant over a muff any day of the week
Also used to have a The Elements for a while. Can't think of anything I disliked about it, other than that it was overwhelming for me, and lacked a couple of preset switches or something to be able to use the pedal to its full potential. I know, it's kinda lame to complaint that a somewhat affordable quality dirt pedal (with top jacks!) is TOO versatile
The rare occasion when I do feel like going for a more whooly muff type tone and don't wanna break out the 70s Maxon D&S I've got laying around somewhere (not true bypass, no led, no dc bus), I dial in my Cluserfuzz so it gets in the right territory, but doesn't drown in a mix as much as a real muff. Actually, check out some of the Clusterfuzz clips on yt. I think it's supposedto be based on a tonebender, but it goes waaaaaay further than your average souped up tonebender clone. I'd post a clip myself, but I've been hyping the Clusterfuzz too much already, people'll start to think I'm affiliated with Function f(x)

Re: Non-Muffs that can do Muffy Things
I've had a couple of Muskets and a Blunderbuss. The Blunderbuss was more aggressive sounding and had a good bit more treble and output, while the Musket was smoother and had more bass. I'm sure either could be set up to do a rough approximation of the other though tbh. Fwiw I love both. I really like the pre, but the focus I don't care about and usually leave off and if I want a Muff I don't want mids tbh, so I leave that too.

More ideas?
A high gain fuzz with lots of bass (lows) but crunchy some cool texture (but open sounding) for guitar.

Made me think of an algal bloom with more low end and gain... which is the doom bloom I suppose? Haven't tried that one thoughsylnau wrote:More ideas?

Doom Bloom is weird, it isn't as gainy as you'd think.
It sort of lets everything breathe, on the right settings.
If you were trying to blow up your power section or stack it you'd get gainier, but I found it wasn't a wall of punishing gain.
I want to try the Sonic Bloom, though.
Who has the two in one Doom/Sonic?
That thing looks like the hottest threesome ever.
