Last year I played a show with Chelsea Wolfe. I hadn't listened to her very much before that, if at all really, so I had few expectations going in. Her set was fucking awesome live. Then the band I was playing in hung out after the show with her and her band and drank whiskey and shot the shit for a while. Initiated by Chelsea coming to us and asking if we'd like to come hang out. She was mellow and really nice and seemed really down to earth. Her band was all really nice too and a dude I'm sort of homies with was doing sound. It was a really fantastic evening. Since then, I've really enjoyed her music a lot. And, although a couple of hours hanging out drinking whiskey doesn't always count for that much, I had a pretty good feeling about her and have a pretty good faith in her sincerity. Obviously, if someone doesn't like the music, that's totally valid. And fine. But sometimes I see people on the internet hurling insults wildly or questioning her sincerity or saying she's trying to get attention for being hot or something. And I just wanna say that I think a lot of the charges are off base. None of those have been leveled in this thread really, but it's a thing I see and this is the Internet and whatever. I think she's a cool dude and her thing is sincere.

To clarify a little bit: I actually dont dislike LDR. I cant stand the whole hip hop culture proliferation but i think that she has some good moments. Gods and monsters is a great song. To be most correct, my statement comparing chelsea to her could in a sense be considered praise, though I didnt exactly mean it that way. What I meant is that CW is akin to LDR in the sense that her music is largely vapid pop that, through a very stylish approach and attention to detail has been elevated to high concept.
TLDR: The music is samey bullshit but the players did their homework and invested in their schtick genuinely and with an actual head for style. As a result they are taken seriously.
In a large sense they should. Style counts for a lot, whether you want to admit it or not. This is doubly so when you commit to it to the point that it really penetrates and informs your sound. That should be celebrated. CW succeeds where Myrkur fails miserably. Its sincere flirtation versus opportunistic exploitation.
I just personally dont actually like the music and tons of thirsty losers that discuss what an "enchanting photography subject" she is steer me away even harder.

God it's even worse with the men who go to her her shows sometimes. Prime "punch in the moshpit" material.
