DBA Evil Filter
Does anyone have thoughts on this?
https://www.deathbyaudiostore.com/Produ ... ode=DBA023
It's a lot of money but does seem massively up my alley. It would probably take the place of a companion fuzz clone, which I would be sorry to take off the board, but it seems to offer 'evil' fuzz of its own in addition to the filters...

There's another thread where d00ds are talking bout this, but tf is inverted compression?

Was hoping someone could explain that. Their own demo and general cooky vagueness in describing this don't make a very compelling justification for the high price. On the other hand it looks great and could be the missing piece of the jigsaw.actualidiot wrote:There's another thread where d00ds are talking bout this, but tf is inverted compression?

I mean, maybe an exciter? A Boost? Eh. I hardly find DBA stuff worth their price.

Haven't seen the video, but reverse compression is generally playing a track in reverse through a compressor then playing the processed track forwards again. (impossible in real time)
They probably mean an expander which is a variation of a gate

Probably just an inverted compression curve....So swell fuzz (overgains and dies at high signal and comes back in when signal decays below threshold).

So basically a sidechained compressor. It's there an example in the video? I'll check it out later.lordgalvar wrote:Probably just an inverted compression curve....So swell fuzz (overgains and dies at high signal and comes back in when signal decays below threshold).

Re: DBA Evil Filter
I think in the second glass case video in the other thread where he talks about all the pedals it sounds like there is some when he engages the sound wave breakdown in front of it. Kinda hard to tell anything from the way he is constantly tweaking (even if it does sound cool). (And usually that kind of stuff is pretty reactive to a guitars volume knob...No way to tell that).
I was mostly thinking in terms of fuzz instead of legit terms...Knowing DBA, I doubt they would implement a full compression system...More like the side effect of the gain and filter hitting each other.
Also, messing with filters and overgains them, they can have a swell type behavior (did that with the tetanus booster and a lpg/sallen-key).

thoughts hmmm....for one that video is horrid, its like someone playing with a knob on a silly synth sayin "oh hey it makes a funny sound" ...I thought I was crazy buying a Robot new....Evil filter sounds ridiculously fun, the fuzz and filter sounds well thoughtout......I could not settle on such a price though...but incase one of you lunatics wants one now try this code....idk if it still works DEATHBYNAMM will get you 15% off

I think that's what they're trying to say too.lordgalvar wrote: Also, messing with filters and overgains them, they can have a swell type behavior (did that with the tetanus booster and a lpg/sallen-key).
Maybe they've overspec'd the gain on the transitors or ICs or whatever theyre using in the filter stage.
I've got an old E13 Soda Meiser and with the chaos switch engaged, it will cut out completely until the input level falls to a volume it can comprehend...
Like the circuit itself is saying, "Buh...no. Nope. I literally can't even right now."
It's fun to play to it, like an instrument in its own right.
Kind of a strangled gated sound that swells into a broken glitch fest of feedback and blown solid state amp madness

Re: DBA Evil Filter
Great way to describe that sound.
Yeah, I've got a seppuku octave drone that does that too. Digi2t has a video where he shows the moonrock he built doing the same kinda thing in a specific mode.

Oh man, I want to try one of these, but the price is pretty fucking steep for a pedal which is either that one sound you've been craving or something you have fun with once and then flip at a loss.comesect2.0 wrote:I thought I was crazy buying a Robot new.
At least with this filter, you more or less know what you're getting. Ish. Esque. DBA prices are generally high, but didn't they start selling stuff before boutique prices were drastically lowered by the sudden influx of basement builders?

Find a Seppuku Digitizer used. It's basically the same thing, only slightly cheaper, more versatile and housed in a smaller enclosure.Eivind August wrote:Oh man, I want to try one of thesecomesect2.0 wrote:I thought I was crazy buying a Robot new.
