I don't like shit, I don't go outside
Haven't played guitar in six months
Haven't bought a pedal in longer
Tried to catch up with everything being released and realized... just not interested rn
Feels horrible, but the idea of touching my guitar and playing whatever I'd play is worse
I have lost all creative drive...
I haven't listened to anything but black metal and Sufjan Stevens for about a year now
My grandfather died four days ago
And for the record I didn't see Moonlight, I didn't see La La Land, I don't have cable, there's no movie theatre around for 1,000 KM, I didn't watch the Oscars, could not bring myself to give less of a fuck
I love you guys, though, I just haven't been around a lot
I play with my son, he's three in a few weeks, I play with him and watch him grow and learn, I love my wife, I play my fantasy RPGs, I use Facebook a lot, I teach high school, that's my life
Hoping some day soon I'll have the urge to brush the dust off the ol' fascist killer and make some music...
Is this... being 30?

If anything the album in the title is one of the best OFWGKTA-related albums imo.
Hope you feel better soon mate

Step 1: Use facebook less and trim the fluff you see there, away from your headspace.
You have an internet connection? No need for TV or movie theater. Try to enjoy your sabbatical, keep busy, LEARN SOMETHING NEW.
This too shall pass
I've grown to prefer compartmentalized phases, or cycles as listener/player. I'll go through periods of playing where I avoid listening to what's current in the world, then play catch-up and listen as much as possible without playing. Otherwise I struggle to focus on the music, and attention shifts to figuring out what the musician is doing instead of getting absorbed in the piece for what it is.

I had been wondering what was up with you, CC!
Sorry to hear about your grandfather, man. I was gutted when my mom's father passed away. My dad's father was more... complicated. But still. Many fuzzy mojos and sympathies sent.
As for the slump, these things come and go in my experience. Try not to get too stressed about it, and maybe one of these days you'll pick up the guitar and something will come out. For now, hanging with your kid and wife, playing RPGs and living life sounds like a good plan.
You can always log in and hang anytime, musical slump or not, new gear or not - anyone who has egged on DoS and Spacey to such lengths is an ILFer for life...

I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

Re: I don't like shit, I don't go outside
MIJ is definitely worth the bucks over MIT. I've owned numerous examples of both over the years (arbitrage to cash in on Swedes paying stupid money for them a while back). Dunno what was changed but the MIT has more saturation, a more piercing treble and not as much bass. It's basically a bit more of a normal sound, a bit more towards the HM-3 sound. It's still fun but it's not THAT sound you know?casecandy wrote:It is, I'm pretty blessed, to be honest.goroth wrote:Get a metalzone amd make some misanthropic black metal!

But get a metal zone for like 35 bucks. Gain off, max volume, tweak the parametric eq and play crowbar all day

^ Solid advice.
Dad lyfe claims another one.
Its true, it comes and goes. Sometimes you get so caught up in just doing the day tonday everything else becomes a distant hope.
But, when your son is a bit older and things ease off a bit, youll feel like hitting it again.
Find a new a completely different thing tondi in the meantime, keep your brain active and sharp.
It sounds like youre a bit stressed, usually we revert to just low energy/intensity activites when we dont have the resources mentally to engage in the things we love.
Exercise is awesome for helping the downside of that and meditation is fucking essential.
Good to hear from you duder!

Sorry to hear about the bad stuff, but glad to have you back!
Now please check out the ILFcast thread and record one with Spacey asap. Maybe Spacey and D.o.S, get the whole gang of wrong opinions back together.

Too gnarled.
Good to see you still kicking though, dude. Spend less time on FB is the most solid advice. That shit is mentally draining.

It'll come back. You'll find your mojo. It's not being 30, it's just getting older and more boring. I'm 37 and dull as fuck. But I'm making music again after a visit to hell and back. Listen to Thundercat. "Jesus take the wheel"

I cordially invite you to fuck right off and let the rest of us talk about music like adults.- dubkitty

My dad died in May and it's still pretty difficult.
Not being inspired can be a pain but it sounds like you have the right and important things in life: Family - wife and kid.
All the other shit isn't as important. Certainly not entertainment. We're too bombarded with shit as a society - all the shows, movies, music.
I wonder all the time whether I should release any music since there is so much out there. Just make music for me or form a band and just write music to write and play for ourselves. It seems counterintuitive though, since it seems like sharing creations is the thing you're supposed to do.
Not buying gear isn't bad either. It's so easily to just keep buying stuff cause you think you need it for creating things. And more money for the boy.
Maybe this lack of inspiration - the break - is a good thing and when you get the interest and spark again it will feel really good to play again.
Do you take your son out on hikes? Maybe getting out of the city and going to parks would be good for the soul.
