I didn't mean to replace the mic in general, I just meant that you could get a similar sound as what it's doing via Pro Tools or a comparable program. My brother is a wiz at that shit, that's the only reason I know that. He's been able to emulate almost anything in his studio that I've heard with any effect. Unless it's super unique. I was just curious in general if you could create those tones via programming. I get the want to not have it as processed though. Keeping it as raw as possible is best IMO too.

Yeah the answer to that is always going to be "yes", more or less, but if it detracts from your workflow it's not really a positive solution, IMO.

You could get close, it's just damn tricky. with a mic like the copperphone, the way it reacts to distance and angle/directionality will not be easily recreatable.

There are some interesting projects in mic simulation going on right now though. Check out the slate modeling mic. But stuff like that requires a calibrated microphone for the software.

When I bought my Carbonphone, he gave me a 2 week money back guarantee to see if I liked it, which is super cool. But also, I was a bit of a special circumstance because I was asking him how it sounds with singing bowls and gongs and stuff, and he had no reference point to give me a true answer. So, I would not expect him to give that offer to everyone.
Nora, how do you like the Carbobnphone with bowls??

I haven't properly tested it. When I bought it, it was right before I moved, and it took me a few months to get setup in the new place. Awhile back when I was recoding samples onto my sp404 with it, I was getting a lot of noise in the sample which made it unusable.. I thought it was the mic because when I switched to another mic, a Calrad dm11, there wasn't much noise. But a few days later I realized it was probably my vintage Gretsch Tremofect pedal that was causing the noise. I haven't tried it since though, but have been meaning to try it soon anyway. I am not sure if I will like it or not though as it might be too distorted for my current taste and what I am trying to achieve sonically these days. Or I may love it. Who knows?
