Korg MS-20 filter in a pedal?

Post by ancientbones »

I've seen a few videos of people who've built the Tim Escobedo modified Korg MS-20 filter into a pedal enclosure. Does anyone sell something like that? Is it hard to build? Haven't found much info on actually building one.

I know there are a few low pass filter pedals out there, but they're all waaay out of my price range and have a lot of stuff I really don't need or care about. All I really need is cutoff, resonance, expression input, and maybe a simple LFO or something.

I want the same. Envelope, LFO and expression control would be cool. I haven't found anything that didn't cost several hundred of your chosen currency.

Frostwave Resonator will scratch the itch. It's aggressive and musical and I love it on everything.
OOP and pricy, unfortunately :erm: however they have been known to pop up for about 300-350. Worth it imo.

I've tried to get people in the shark rank to build me one of couple of years ago but peeps were having trouble with getting it to sound right with the input and output volume. I'd still love to have one in my board by I've been using a iron ether xerograph low pass until someone finally builds one again.

My bass player has the Frostwave which I covet terribly. I went ahead a built Eric Archer's take on the Escobito circuit which is pretty bare bones but does the trick. I've been trying to learn enough circuit theory so I make another one that's a low pass into a high pass (modified version of the first circuit) to get me closer to that MS-20 sound.

Someone mentioned the Shapeshift Mountain in another filter thread, but yet again it's a $300 pedal :(.

I'm just having no luck on researching some other options out there.

I dunno why korg don't do it. They do tuners and the miku so they have foot switches. Hell, they could do separate HPF and LPF stompbox units (either envelope/lfo/exp control) and then a two in one unit like the frostwave one. Shit, do a "Volca Sweep" where you can sequence different filter controls and sync it with the other Volcas.

F.A.O Korg - I will take one ms20 mini as payment for my awesome idea.

I already traced out and cloned the Resonator a while back. Maybe send Alex at Tagboard a note, and ask him to draw up a vero for it. He recently did a vero of the Funk-a-Duck, so he might be game to do a Resonator as well. I simply don't have the time to do one at the moment. Then you could get a builder to put one together for you.

i have an etched Brainfreeze i'd be down with selling for $200. uses DC though, and he made them so they only sweep if a foot pedal is doing the sweep.
