CV on pedals
So I've never messed with control voltage before and know nothing about it except that more and more of my pedals have cv on them.
How do you use it and what kind of things can you do with it?

Re: CV on pedals
Basically - as the name implies - it's a way of controlling a certain function. On a regular pedal, you turn a knob to change a function, but with CV you can hook up an external modulation source, like an LFO, envelope or an expression pedal and control it with that. What you can do with it depends on how that pedal is laid out.

Re: CV on pedals
Exactly like AI said: It's "control voltage" that will control a given parameter. The more voltage you send, the closer to clockwise the knob will be (if you follow). 0CV would be entirely to the left of the knob, the max CV would be a knob on full, etc.

Filter sequencing/sweeps and pitch shifting, mostly.
Here's an example of using (attenuated) CV from the modular on a pedal - Wogglebug controlling the Whammy pitch in a Digitech RP360 (hugely underrated CV-friendly superpedal):

Re: CV on pedals
Randy's Revenge can control other CV pedals.
I sometime use Randy to control my Four Eyes Fuzz.
I just set Randy's dip switch to be a controller, use regular cable from Randy CV to the Four Eyes CV.
The result is amazing.

Re: CV on pedals
There is no standard overall. Some are 0-5v, some 0-10v, 3-8v, 1-3v, etc. Check and make sure. Some are actually passive exp (LAL).
Some boss pedals accept a trigger pulse in place of a foot switch. Trigger sequences can create some fun delay shifts.
CV the CV (or rm CV) for more fun.
Use can use stable voltages as a caveman preset (step through steps on a sequencer).
All about being creative and finding routings that work with the pedals you got...Just another level of depth.

Awesome info! Thanks all!
I should have said I know what it does but I want to hear how you're using it and/or share cool video examples whether you made them i not. Looking for inspiration for the new setup.
And if any of you are using the SA Reflex tell me how you are using it!

Re: CV on pedals
I've used CV on the WMD Protostar and Randy's Revenge to control a bunch of stuff on A bunch of pedals and even use, for example, the envelope out on the Protostar to control the carrier frequency on Randy and use the carrier to control the frequency on the Protostar. The best for me is being able to use the envelope follower on the Protostar to control parameters on the Pretty Years or Chase Bliss pedals. It adds a whole new dimension of weird to pedals and often times makes it seem like I've just doubled the functionality of my board. I highly recommend getting something like the Protostar, Dwarfcraft Twin Stags, Happiness, or ARF, or any of the Moogerfoogers. Or you could just go modular and say goodbye to your money entirely.

Yeah. Nice to have an expression pedal that will work with EVERYTHING for once, not one diff for each input.

I've got the ARF and the Midi Murf and Cluster Flux out of the ones you've listed.yeatsvisitslincoln wrote:I've used CV on the WMD Protostar and Randy's Revenge to control a bunch of stuff on A bunch of pedals and even use, for example, the envelope out on the Protostar to control the carrier frequency on Randy and use the carrier to control the frequency on the Protostar. I've been really interested in the Twin Stags and Happiness. Just gotta decide which one to get first.

Oh hell yeah, that would be fun. The first sampler I ever owned has something similar and it was a blast. This would be really cool for my tabletop setup.D.o.S. wrote:You should hunt down a Koma Kommander. I bet it you'd have a good time with one.Ruiner wrote:Awesome info! Thanks all!
