Both stolen from an old friend who decided he was only going to play through a handmade Princeton Reverb clone, a TS9 clone, and his '59 Tely: Lexicon MPX-100 and Boss DS-1. :thumb:

Though I originally meant only to list racks if your first effects unit happened to be a rack, I guess I will mention my first rack:

TEH ALESIS AKIRAZZZZ.

I love it because it has a bit crusher, but I hate it because you can't layer effects... :(

The next rack I got was a patch bay.

My go to delay. I decided to save up a year before getting any effects.

D00D, I hate you!

I wish I could say I put this much thought into purchases, instead of just prowling ebay for cheap stuff all the time.

The second pedal I ever bought was a Danelectro FAB Metal! :picard: (Not that it didn't serve me well for the years I owned it... My first distortion pedal, and sort of the beginning of my making straight-up KKRSSHCKSJSHHSKJSKSSS!!!! Noise with hardware... Good tymes).

Ibanez Thrashmetal Soundtank. I got it because it had "Thrash" in the name, and I loved Metallica. So I figured it HAD to be good.

Still have it, and actually used it in a band setting for moments when I wanted to remove all of the bass from my signal. Worked really well for that!

That photo isn't mine... I lost the faceplate to mine, which I replaced with some electrical tape & a little skull drawing...

I like how "over drive" is two words on that pedal.

First was an EH LPB-1,
Slider switch, and conveniently plugged into the amp, or guitar depending on which version you got. Step on your cord and it either broke off at the amp or broke your pickguard.
