all you're hearing is great reverb. give me any shitto casio and reverb and i'm there.

if you can find a dry, good recording of more than 1 good sound of the akai i'm impressed.

He really is. I might still go for a used one, because honestly I'll use reverb and overdrive on whatever I'll do with it. At first I though the reverb was built in but oh well.

Anyone used a Zvex Machine? Particularly with a Box Of Metal or other gated fuzz/amp distortion? It seems like it'd give you some weird gnarliness to a lot of stuff.

Also Dwarfcraft Hax? Seems like a cool, fucked up sounding alternative to a Gonkulator reissue. I've been using the Bitquest ring mod and it kicks ass, especially for weird stuff but I'd rather use the reverb setting.

Currently using an unpleasant surprise as general gnar stacking pedal. Works perfectly for that.

Maybe I tried it once, not sure anymore.
It sounds mostly like a weirdly scrambled octave fuzz to me.
I remember having GAS for it, years later checking out clips again and then my interest wore off.
Can't say much about it honestly.
Might be in the same ballpark as the Unpleasant Surprise indeed.

Ha, ha, that's why I've given up on the very idea of headphone amps. I'd rather just play really quietly through an actual speaker.
