agreed, jazzmasters are very unique sounding when they have the proper jm pickups. not as deadly bright as a strat, warmer than a tele, but they can still get out of control.

those j. mascis jms are pretty sweet. maybe a little too different but executed far better than the similar classic player jazzmaster. though i think that guitar has strat pickups under jazzmaster covers as opposed to the j. masics' p90s?

Not sure but yep, the ones in the Mascis are definitely higher output, more like P90s. Or I guess they are P90s?

im fairly certain the j. mascis has p90s based on the tone and adjustable pole pieces but as for the classic player im not quite sure, i *think* it has strat pickups.

The Fano JM6 Standard still sound like my best option at the moment.
Only a few downside:
-a 2k guitar in a gigbag?
-destressed finish

Jazzmasters are bright even with the rhythm circuit engaged? I can't stand that because its too muffled, I removed it from my build completely.

What about something with Wide Range Humbuckers? They open up with 500k pots and can get a pretty nice jangle on a longer scale.

I might be able to try a Maton 50th anniversary at a local store.

What you guys think about this one?

I prefer the look of the JM6 Standard (but cannot try it).

I don't know anything about guitars at that price point, but I think fano guitars in general look amazing. They have a few at the local pedal store in Stockholm

WRs have magnetic pole pieces instead of a bar magnet so its not like a traditional humbucker in that sense. The design was intended to sound slightly crisper than a humbucker. They also have more bass and are warmer than the pickups he's trying to shed without fully embracing the HB burl. This also differs from P90 construction is a similar sense so yes, I would say there definitely are exceptions!

The ones your are talking about are the MIJ/CIJ jazzmasters, I have one and I love the stock pickups!

Classic players have P90s in Jazzmaster covers.
