I've thought about a Unpleasant Surprise also!! You're playing heavier stuff too right? What sounds do you tend to use it for?goroth wrote:This question is relevant to my interests!BoatRich wrote:Anyone used a Zvex Machine? Particularly with a Box Of Metal or other gated fuzz/amp distortion? It seems like it'd give you some weird gnarliness to a lot of stuff.
I think Tristan has/had one. Can't remember though.
Currently using an unpleasant surprise as general gnar stacking pedal. Works perfectly for that.

Korg needs to make a souped-up Volca FM (or a neo DX7) in the Minilogue/Monologue format. Please and thank you.

Knob per function-ish would be too limiting for fm, give me a matrix and complete control!resincum wrote:pd~ wrote:Korg needs to make a souped-up Volca FM (or a neo DX7) in the Microkorg format. Please and thank you.![]()

Every time I settle down on a headphone amp to get something new comes out.

this looks sweet though, so here's hoping.
Edit: better video:

Interesting.
Ha, ha, that's why I've given up on the very idea of headphone amps. I'd rather just play really quietly through an actual speaker.

Re: The Whatever Thread .. For Gear!!
I have a Machine (clone now, but I had an official unit before) and I'm not sure how useful it is. When I A/B it stacked with another fuzz, it always seems to sound better off. I think it may be a good recording tool, to have some toanz variety on tap. They've been around for a long time - you don't see very many in the field though, eh?
So you guys, I have a pedal I haven't used for a couple years, and it won't engage. Is it because the stomp switch is gummed up? Can I just try stomping it a million times, or should I spray it with something? (I gave up after a minute). Stomp switches are the worst (loud, and they fail). I have a new respect for Boss pedals and their almost indestructible stomp mechanisms.

Re: The Whatever Thread .. For Gear!!
The crazy tiny little sliders on the jp08 are way too small and it's starting to get on my nerves. It's super easy to get those big, classic jupiter sounds. But when you're trying to dial in something that's not an enormous pad, it's really tedious and super easy to over/undershoot the value you're trying to dial in.
The worst offenders are the envelopes, cross mod, lfo mod depth, and lfo time. Everything else is fairly easy to adjust, but I do get a little frustrated with the osc 2 controls. The "tune" knob isn't that useful, and you can't just flip the coarse tuning to the different octaves because it treats it like a continuous range. I think I need to get something different, but there's nothing quite like it in a desktop format... Maybe I'll get an old Virus or Blofeld or something. I really like the one-knob-per-function thing, though....

Re: The Whatever Thread .. For Gear!!
so it seems like i'm doing all* my 2017 silly gear purchases in January. I got the warren ellis signature bari tenor (lol at the name), raptio is on its way here, got a super oscillo fuzz 88 clone to try out before i'll take the plunge and get something expensive from LAL, and now i'm really GASing for another pedal with a hold function. was thinking of getting a freeze, but the zcat hold reverb seems like a better option.
*probably not. i tend to go stupid whenever i have any money left over after the bills. or sometimes before the bills...

Re: The Whatever Thread .. For Gear!!
So far this year I have bought an Eventide H9, a midi pedal to go with it, an expressionator, and a Boss LS-2. Really re-configuring my pedalboard after I got a V4 back in my stable. I've got a few pedals that I am selling, and hopefully by the end of this week I will have enough to buy another H9 and complete my layout in time to buy a new custom pedalboard... Being a musician is expensive...
