Re: Ring (and/or Balanced) Modulation for the masses
I have one of those chart recorder or something like it (don't remember what it says on it). Found it for $20 after you mentioned it (you know, 23...Hagbard style at the swap meet). First time I plugged it in I think I got some hearing loss. Been kinda scared of it since then. Gotta take another look at it down the road. Thing has way massive gain. I could hear the artifact grit though...
That last video was damn good...But I think they all are haha.

This thread has always been really fun to read (and way over my head) but this is a spectacular reference.lordgalvar wrote: (you know, 23...Hagbard style at the swap meet).

I can't remember if I've already posted this in the thread. It's not really a ring mod, but it sounds pretty fun anyway:

Sounds like the PLL family like the recovery, new LAL, hysteresis, and thermal wave. The control setup seems very much like the recovery motormatic.
It's a fun effect for sure.

most all the big box lovetones arent "true" bypass as one would consider itcrochambeau wrote:I'm clearly missing a little back story here (apologies) but can I pester you for elaboration on this snippet? I'm having trouble fitting these conceptual blocks together.Gigahearts_FX wrote:seemingly did not adjust the footswitching for reduction of carrier bleed in the signal.
The Ringstinger can suffer what I call carrier bleed even when its off - that would be (very) low level ring mod sound "mixed" with your clean (bypass) tone
When the String Ringer project (which most clones are based off, including this one) came around, they suggested improvements to the bypass requiring a minimum 3PDT switch, rather than the DPDT switch used on the original.
An even further step was to add extra LEDs for indication rate while the LFO is off using a 4PDT switch.
The point is, the duders who are marketing this Ringstinger clone has basically copied wholesale the original string ringer project, onto a nice new double sided pre-fabbed PCB with board-mounted everything. it actually looks pretty awesome.
As long as they have properly matched the (hopefully vintage

Im being a bitch really anyway as most people (ab)using a ring modulator probably wont mind a bit of extraneous noise.
Regards PCBs and pedals, I still sell the Doppelganger clone PCBs so people can make their own. I just dont have the time to build much these days because Im focusing on my professional and personal life
I still lurk a bit here, and will of course answer technical PMs as and when they pop up, and fix any pedals if they ever need it (hopefully not, I tried to build them nicely)
Best,
Ian
edit - for whats its worth, my proper vintage Ring Stinger doesnt carrier bleed - I imagine its cos Dan Coggins matched and balanced everything.

I kind of liked it better when it was a mess of wires and countained a lovely shout out (and a goddamn glorious beard).
Pretty hyped on this, for sure.

Hahaha, that one is still a mess of wires.. I guess I can offer that as an option if someone wants to rehouse or just play it naked.D.o.S. wrote:I kind of liked it better when it was a mess of wires and countained a lovely shout out (and a goddamn glorious beard).
