Aye fuzzers—
I want to put together a little tabletop setup for synths/drum machines/pedals, and need a mixer. The Yamaha MG series seems to offer the most of what I'm looking for at a good price (quality, aux/sends, etc). I was particularly looking at the MG12 because it's the smallest model with faders, but I noticed that there's the regular version, then then XU version, which has on-board digital effects. It's 50 bucks more, which isn't a huge deal, but I don't wanna bother paying for that if the fx are shitty.
I figure they could be fun, though? Curious if anybody's used one of these, and if so, what'd you think of the fx?
Also into suggestions for other brands if you've got em. Kmix would be rad, but that's more than I wanna spend—I'm looking roughly in the $300 range.
Anbody used a Yamaha MG__XU mixer?

Seems like a solid no.
In that case, the broader question: have any of you ever gotten good sounds with the onboard digital fx on any mixer? Seems like a clear case of "shitty but could be interesting if used in the right way."

i've had mixers w/ digital fx before. sometimes they are cool or useful. sometimes they are not.
yamaha usually has some good digital algorithms tho. nice verbs.
i prob wouldn't ever pay extra for the fx on a mixer but more like if a good used deal came up what the hey

Cool, that's kinda where I'm headed. Figured the verbs at least could also be useful if I were running vox on a practice space PA.

yea thats pretty much how i used mine. verbs from the digital fx freeing up an aux send for more fx…sometimes more verb.
if you can find an effect or two that you can jive w/ on some level then they are handy to have when you need em.
those yamaha have a compression knob on certain channels don't they? is it that both models? or just the one w/ fx?

Yep, both models have 1-knob compression on 4 channels. I was pleasantly surprised by that... I know it's not gonna sound like a 1176 or anything but I imagine it's pretty damn useful.
