Do we have a thread for KNOBS?

Post by Invisible Man »

Not the pedal demo/askashrub entity...actual KNOBS.

I love em. Trying to find some cool stuff that's maybe a little out of the ordinary or interesting. Ebay seems cool, BLMS...where else do you source weird stuff? Especially those of you who are builders/etchers/modifiers?

Smallbear and Tayda have a lot of the standard ones.

Wish I could buy Rogan knobs but it's a pain in the ass to find a reliable supplier for them.

Go to a flea market and look for old washing machines and ovens.

Mammoth has been previewing anodized knobs for a while (navy, olive, et cetera), and I imagine they're available for order, even though they're not shown in the knobs inventory.

BLMS has colorful aluminum ones, too, but they're for 6.0mm shafts.

SB has several synth-style and plastic knobs with the silver faces.

Sean Ryan was doing Sovtek-style knobs for a while, but I'm not sure if he's active presently.

If you really want unique knobs, I would hunt down vintage appliance knobs and then duplicate them with a 3D printer or ship them to Asia and have a factory clone them.

I blindly ordered like 40 of the brushed aluminum from mammoth last time they were on sale, I was not hugely impressed. The percentage of them with imperfections like the black line missing, blems in the metal was unfortunately high. Great price though, so I wasn't actually to disapointed. Just make sure you check the knobs out before you order a bunch.

Still love mammoth for their affordable well finished enclosures

Check out suppliers who sell knobs for things like instrument panels in aircraft...some really awesome knobs but they are insanely expensive. Like $45 bucks a piece.

Mouser by far has the best selection I've seen. The quality is great on everything I've ever order as well.

I'd avoid aluminum from Mammoth. I bought like 20 knobs and all the set screws failed on them over time (not a long time either). Like pedals, I don't like cheap crap knobs. So I've paid up to 10 bucks a knob before, but they were amazing. Smallbear has high quality as well for a decent price.

I bought some fat Boss knobs for my bass at bitcheslovemyswitchees, inspired by some other posters here. I like the look but the feel is kinda dinky plastic.

The cafeteria at my work has some bitchin-looking knobs on their food-warmers, but I think they're of a type that wouldn't fit on any standard guitar pot, sadly.
This is a very impressive collection of Roto Toms. That's 21 Roto Toms in all. That is only $33.00 a Roto Tom.

Will definitely check back in to this thread with a picture of said bitchin' knobs that I covet.

Holy shit how did I not think of 3D printing? I have access to a ton of them here at work...just had a conversation about printing earlier today.

Now I need to think of something crazy I can draw up...

Sean is local and a really cool dude, he does knobs still just mainly on a custom order basis. He also sells them at a store here
