Algal Bloom vs. Mini

Post by ancientbones »

I'm on the hunt for a new dirt pedal, but need to keep it small (mxr-sized).

I was looking into the Algal Bloom XS and the Mini. I want something that can be versatile. I'm tired of muff and rat sounds. I want something crazy, trebly, and jangly.

Mini probably does a better job of versatile.

I don't know, Algal Bloom is pretty damn versatile.

The mini will give you a more customizable eq though. But the Algal bloom would win for crazy, trebly, jangly. Especially with Choke/HAB toggle

So does it HAVE to be one of those two? Cause in cause you missed the 29 previous times I posted this...:

Definitely no rat or muff, definitely versatile. Tonebender-based I believe. Not tiny though, but not bigger than an algal bloom either I think. Fwiw, they're suposedly working on a small version of the Clusterfuzz :snax:

never tried a bloom but the mini can do all kinds of stuff awesomely. saggy broken drive to clean chimes. bass/treble eq is super handy.
i'm glad i can call you a friend. even if i'll never see you again

Might be interested if it were smaller. Trying to keep my board compact.

Mini is more versatile with the eq, both are jangly, but I think on the whole I prefer the bloom? That's the one I still have, anyway, having owned both at the same time previously. The mini does a bit less of the jangle and can't get as heavy

Algal bloom V2 is way more versatile.
You can eq more and get really low biased sounds out of the mini.

Both are fucking excellent.

You want the algal.

I love my Mini but I'd say if you're wanting something to do some exploration with, the Algal's the way to go. Lotsa soundz.

I think the Mini is dope as it gets. I've had a couple of Algal Blooms and couldn't really bond with either of them. Mini on the other hand is awesome at any setting.

Any setting.

The Mini is totally the coolest OD I've ever had. From slight breakup and boost with sag to a full on heavy fucking drive. SS/BS, you made the dirt pedal I've wanted forever. The Doom Bloom is awesome too, not sure how it compares to the Algal. The Doom is what the fuck is up. Heavy, bass-y but no muffled or muddy. Both are keepers.

I'm stoked on my drive section for the first time in a bit. Doom > Rat > Mini. Yiss.
