Re: 2/3 Delay pedal combo suggestions
I'm really digging the Avalanche Run. I'm just starting to dig more into the reverb side and it's really a fun pedal. At first I was a little underwhelmed, but it's very versatile, really easy to use and can cover for delay, reverb, or just instant ambience. My only gripe is the lack of modulation, but I plan on fixing that by adding in an In Limbo III when stock and money line up.
Edit: I will definitely be buying an In Limbo III when funds allow.

Kilobyte is fucking killer.
Meet Maude can do the most beautiful washy stuff, and also weird, but it is dark.
With the BQ you can do subtle mod, wacky shit, or logo crud by using the fuzz side.

My GAS list is huge atm, it's been a while since I lusted for so many pedals at the same time...But the Avalanche Run is somewhere at the top of that list. I usually really dislike modulation on delay, and the rest of what you describe is exactly what I'm looking for in my next delay pedal. My RV-3 is awesome and all, but sorta limited as a do-it-all postrock/ambient/noise machineThurberMingus wrote:I'm really digging the Avalanche Run. Don't think the Pro has modulation, the switch engages a faux multitap/second head thingamajig.

Just mpo, but when it comes to no frills awesome classic delays: DM3 > AD9. Actually, a DM-2W can be be found for less than an AD9, and it does have a couple features the AD9 doesn't have

Re: 2/3 Delay pedal combo suggestions
Just sold a vintage DM-2 after comparing it with my AD-9. Both great, just prefer the slightly darker tones of the AD-9. Don't need no extra features.
The Waza looks cool, though.
Paid about $140 for the AD-9, a bit more for the DM-2, don't know where you're looking?
Edit: Oh, the Waza is $149, thought it was two hundy for some reason.
Anyways, pink, analog delays will always be the one true answer!

Re: 2/3 Delay pedal combo suggestions
I'm actually using mine in conjunction with an RV-3 right now because I like having a dedicated reverb. When I get another delay it will be set up much more "wet".frigid midget wrote: My GAS list is huge atm, it's been a while since I lusted for so many pedals at the same time...But the Avalanche Run is somewhere at the top of that list. I love the RV-3, but the AR really shits all over it in terms of sound and usability. The whole range of the tone control changes the delay characteristics in a really cool way. I personally find the RV-3's delay to be very cold and not all that interesting. IMO that is, I know a lot of people love that delay. The AR has so many good sounds that you can just get lost in it, and very quickly tweak two or three knobs to reel it back in. I definitely need an expression pedal for it.

Ahhhhh derp yes you're right. Regardless, don't need no stinkin' modulationEivind August wrote:My man.popvulture wrote:For super classic lervly boner delayz I think the AD9 can't be beat. The pro has modulation, but my OG has never left me wanting more.![]()

I do like a little bit of mod on a delay from time to time—I just hate it when it instantly sounds like a chorus pedal. And a LOT of them do that.

Re: 2/3 Delay pedal combo suggestions
i am seriously a delay junkie. TONS of them.
at the moment i'd probably have to roll w/ 4... i'd feel kinda sore going w/ fewer...
not counting vintage nor tape nor rack, i'd probably pick these:
DBA echo dream 2 (though mine's dirge modified w/ half time / double time)
empress vintage mod superdelay for lots of options (i'm still not too into my nemesis and timeline...)
80tape in limbo 2
keeley cavern (surprisingly love this one, but it's got reverb too so maybe that's why...)
edit: ah shit... love the ED2 but probably changed my mind and would put my walrus bellwether in there.

Favorite delays for me in no particular order because they all rule:
Echo Degrader
Bellweather
In Limbo iii
I would be a happy slappy camper with the Echo Degrader and either of the other two since they do similar things. I think I prefer the limbo because of the arp mode, but they're both really great. Right now I have a Limbo and I'm sort of faking the Degrader sound with a disaster transport jr.

Re: 2/3 Delay pedal combo suggestions
Currently using a Nemesis + Pladask delay. (oh, ok, and the Malekko 616 for slapback). It's a great combo, covers tons of ground.
About the Nemesis though: it is an impressive machine, but it does sound digital in spades. If you love the sound of "analog" delay, you might not like the tone of the Nemesis.
I was a bit disappointed at that at first, but on the other hand, it does wonders when you want to break away from "pure guitar". It does great synth-like drones, or "out-of this world" effects, especially with its beautiful runaway feedback. But again, if you're a pure analog freak, I wouldn't recommend the Nemesis. (with the 616 and Pladask nearby, my analog taste is fullfilled)
On a smaller pedalboard, I've paired the Meet maude with the ED2. These two are amazing, but both are very special. The ED2's sound is so beautiful, no matter what you play.
(you cant go wrong with an ED2 or a Pladask)
In Limbo 3 sounds great too, but I didn't get the chance to try it. Still considering selling the Nemesis for one of those. Time will tell.
Hope this helps.
