Your thoughts on this guitar

Post by sylnau »

What you guys think about this Fano JM6 Standard?
Anyone played one of these? Thoughts?
What you think about the distressed finish?

I played one, with a Bigsby rather than hardtail. Great guitar; maybe slightly more bassy than I prefer, but I think that'd be to your liking? Anything in particular you want to know?

How is the neck? Big or thine
Is the distressed look silly in person?
Pickup are more on the warmer side or trebely (like a tele)?

Pickups were warm. I think they do different neck profiles, but the one I tried was slightly fatter than your typical Fender C. Can't remember how the finish looked in specifics (think it was sonic blue), but remember it looking good.

Thanks!!! I'm not a fan of distressed guitar... but this one doesn't seems that bad (except the mark on the headstock).
I think the price on the standard is OK... less than some US made Gibson or Fender.

Fano makes some of my favorite guitars. The necks are usually pretty thick. I'm pretty sure they use Lollar for all their pickups.

As far as distressing, that one is fairly clean for them. They charge extra for the less distressed you want it.

I like stupid levels of distressed though, but I think that thing looks great.

No Lollar or Fralin on the Standard serie... they are Fano pickups (built by a guy who used to work at Gretsch).

The Fanos that I've played have all been pretty great, but I don't like how they look. For me, I can think of guitars that I'd prefer to spend $1800 on. For instance, I vastly prefer my Milimetric to any of the Fanos that I've played. Just a more interesting guitar, and every bit as high quality.

What attracts you to this one Syl?

@kosta, the look with the metal pickguard is cool... not a fan of relic tho. P90 should be beefier than tele single coil and better with fuzz than humbucker.

I know there's a lot of better option at this price point... but it have to be available here in Canada. I won't import a guitar from the USA or somewhere else (will cost too much).
Guitar store around here (and even in Montreal) just have the regular boring stuff.

Would be cool... but they are not available here. Custom and broker fees would break the deal.
