ha. I suppose that makes sense. Just like a n00b guitar player being into line 6 or whatever. lolDr. Sherman Sticks M.D. wrote:just an FYI, the akai xr20 is the alesis sr repackaged to cater to a more hip hop/electronic crowd.
Ok. interesting.
I guess this is my next question.....what are you guys doing with synths and drum machines?
On a whim, I decided to get the pocket piano. stumbled across it and thought it looked fun. No prior experience or interest.

The orange and black is the Dr 202 yes, and it matches the HM-2 in aesthetic and the 202 has some gnarly bass programming...

fairly rural location and CL sucks. 0 drum machines.
nearest bigger city is 2 hours away. it has a electribe for $280 and TR-8 for $400. that's it.
Probably have to do online. reverb and/or ebay.

Inspired by this thread, I just bought an SR-16 for hella cheap on ebay. I've never fucked around with a drum machine before. Should be fun.
This is a very impressive collection of Roto Toms. That's 21 Roto Toms in all. That is only $33.00 a Roto Tom.

I use synths in a pretty melodic way, less noisy/experimental, more East Coast if I'm going to use a historically appropriate term. That said, I do have fun making weird noises just as much as plenty of people on here. I find my Minilogue is esp fun for that. I love how trashy the onboard delay is.GAS KING wrote:I guess this is my next question.....what are you guys doing with synths and drum machines?
Drum machine-wise, I either use them for sketching out songs that I'd imagine would have live drums in a perfect world, or for making more sort of typically oonz oonz electronic shit. I love kind of murky deep house and dub techno type stuff, and having a real drum machine is 1000% more fun than fucking around with any kind of plugin, regardless of the application.
I'm not sure that was in any way helpful or informative, haha.

Re: I'd like to get my first drum machine to go with my firs
Yeah, lol sorry. I should have posted it to the thread. The seller had started it off as an auction and had posted something like "okay, this has a SUPER low reserve" but there were like 25 bids and no one hit the reserve. So he turned right around and listed it as a Buy It Now for $50 +shipping and I was like "fuck it I'm in". It looks like they regularly sell for between $40-$75 on auctions though, so you probably wouldn't have to wait too long for a similar deal.GAS KING wrote:Nice!lost in music wrote:Inspired by this thread, I just bought an SR-16 for hella cheap on ebay. I wouldn't rule out the new Electribes. A good variety of drum sounds and some decent sounding synth patches as well. Plus you can sequence the Pocket Piano, which would be cool.

How do I sequence the pocket piano?
Again, sorry. I know nothing. I'm trying to research and watch videos to learn. Also realizing I have to learn how to play piano. Overall, it's like learning multiple new languages. Tech and interfaces. 30-100 page manuals on each.
I didn't listen at all. Lol
Bought Arturia beatstep, mini lab and SparkLE.
No clue how to use, hook up or function.
All soft.
