Yeah, you need to go back to it.
The whole point of BAT pedals is to cook your power section.
So if you didn't have the volume up to 3/4+ on the pedal and your amp wasn't starting to break up it's power tubes you wouldn't have been getting the full amount of glory you were entitled to.
So, as Vid mentioned, using it as a near clean boost, which you can eq and put that FAC on, into your Orange's dirty channel should deliver.
Volume, FAC on 2-3 depending on how much definition you want to retain.
FAC on 1 is for black metal.
Anything 4 and above should put you into ridiculous Doom territory.
I run mine into a very clean ProTube with the gain cranked and it sounds stupid good.
So using a clean amp as a platform is still a great option.
It's such a versatile pedal it's just ridiculous.
I want to go play with it now.

Yeah. Also sweet.
Plus it stacks amazing with like 99% of other dirt pedals so even if you don't love it, you can plug your other dirt into it/goose other dirt with it and it'll make everything sound about 1000x more brutal.
Don't like muffs?
Stack one with a BF, get ready to have a painful erection.
Rat not doing it for you?
Stack it with a BF, brutalise every anus in hearing range.
Etc.

I really want to try a Pharoah again, now that I'm using an OR50. Everyone always has great things to say about it into cooking amps.

Yeah, that's kinda one of the things that always kept me from buying one. A lot of raving reviews all talk about how good the Pharoah sounds when it's stacked, or when you put it in front of this amp, with those settings, etc...O Drones wrote:I really want to try a Pharoah again, now that I'm using an OR50. I could probably make a Boss DS-1 sound decent when I put in front of a big muff or cooking amp, I sorta expect my booteek pedlols to sound great on their own

Haha yeah that's probably fair. I think the Pharaoh sounds good on its own but YMMV.

In all honestly, I don't even have a strong opinion of myself when it comes to the Pharaoh. Never had one, though I might want to get one someday and find out for myself what it sounds like with my rig. I was a bit underwhelmed with the Black Forest and LSTR I used to have. And when looking for similar dirt I always leaned more towards more gainy, cheaper, less hyped options than the Pharaohmonkeydancer wrote:Haha yeah that's probably fair. Well if it's anything like the Badascan into an OR120 you will fucking love it.O Drones wrote:I really want to try a Pharoah again, now that I'm using an OR50. Everyone always has great things to say about it into cooking amps.

LSTR was never quite right for me, or any other muff. Pharaoh is the first muff I've ever got on with long enough to keep around. I do think it's particularly good. Slays on bass. Generally I agree with you on the hype but I think this is one of those where it's pretty much justified.

Awesome guys! Thanks a lot for your willingness to help me. I discovered some great stuff with your posts and will have to do a lot of researching... Too bad I can't really try most of the stuff in-person. Right now I'm aiming at something from Black Arts Toneworks, either the Black Forest or Pharaoh... I've been hearing a lot of the Pharaoh so... Probably that one. Let's see if I can find something used for cheap...
What about the Verellen Big Spider? Any thoughts on that one?
Keep your ideas coming!
Thanks in advance.
Have a great 2017, everyone!
Cheers,
Daniel

Well...The Big Spider looks cool, and I'm sure the parts and builld quality are top notch...But other than that, it's still just a Germanium fuzz. A $200 germanium fuzzmatarroano wrote:Awesome guys! With the countless aternatives from builders like EQD, BAT, Darfcraft, etc...The Big Spider just doesn't look all that impressive to me
Also fyi, though I guess there's few people out there who give a shit: It doesn't work on batteries.
