Favorite/best spring reverb

Post by theecaptain »

I have a 1970 Twin Reverb, but I'm not quite satisfied.

I'm looking to get the type of reverb on this album: https://jefferydragrecords.bandcamp.com ... pertension

I think I'd describe it as a dark, spring reverb, but I'm not sure.

I'm looking for reverbs across all price ranges, and haven't decided if I wasn't to go with something simpler (like a Spacman Orion or Malekko Spring Chicken LTD) or something that will facilitate a variety of reverbs (like the Empress Reverb or the Strymon BigSky).

What would you/have you gone with?

Bonus points for other tips/gear to get other tones on the above album (vibrato or tremolo, etc.).

Sounds like traditional outboard tank or emulation.

Have you tried asking the band?

I'm more interested in reverb recommendations than just that. I figured it was probably amp reverb. Also, I know Seth from the band, but we've never talked gear.
lots of weird stuff.

Nah, that sounds like outboard tank/standard surf stuff.

Second preamp basically, slamming the front of another amp.

I would suggest the eventide space, digitech digiverb, catalinbread topange.

In that order.

I love the Spring sounds on the Space—they're probably the best I've heard. Also was really impressed with the sound of the spring on the Empress verb, but I got a dud and ended up exchanging it with CME for the Space. Hopefully they'll get some of those kinks ironed out, because it's a cool ass pedal.

Adding a little tremolo on the spring is key on the space.

I'm a happy camper with either my spring chicken ltd or mr black deluxe plus. I prefer the deluxe plus bc adding a tiny bit of trem is fun most of the time. For only having one knob controlling the reverb it seems perfect for a spring to me. First half is all in the world of subtle/normal, next quarter is pretty drastic spring sounds that are metallic and pretty, last quarter is intense and oscillates easily and still pretty, but in a wild space way.
