Mid Gain Bass VI Dirt?

Post by BoatRich »

I've been using a Peavey Butcher on the high gain input for most of my dirt sounds lately, but I need cleans more often so... I'm looking for a low to medium gain distortion to push the low gain as an almost always on and be boosted with a Blower Box or possibly an Elements if I end up picking one up.

I was thinking a Klone of some kind? Posssibly a DOD BiFet? Playing mostly hardcore and weirder heavy stuff with a strong hint of gaze, drone, and ambience. I kinda loved my Fuck for this and I'm wondering if the Mini will do the same? Every demo I've watched it sounds a lot fuzzier. Help me out here.

The Mini can sound fuzzier because of the bias control. The crackle feature of the Fuck is basically the bias of the circuit being modulated by your picking strength; where as with the Mini, you set the bias with a pot for the amount of scuzziness you want all the time. I believe the bias control set around 2 o'clock on the Mini is pretty close to how the Fuck is set stock.

You seem pretty fixated on a fuck/mini but I just love the driving notion on the VI. But you've already had on right?

I've got a Fredrick Zombie Klone if you're interested. But, I think the Mini sounds better with bass.

I've had one a couple of times, it doesn't seem to love high output pickups. I just know I liked the Fuck a lot but never used the crackle in a band setting

Get two Minis.
This is a very impressive collection of Roto Toms. That's 21 Roto Toms in all. That is only $33.00 a Roto Tom.

This does seem reasonable... already considering two bitquests

Anyone use a Mini for heavy shit? I know it'll handle the more sparkly side of things really well

Back when I had my mini I preferred it for the heavy more so than the sparkly. I used a fuck for the lighter and the mini to bring the meat.

Mini, fuck, driving notion are all great options. I use the fuck and driving notion for most of my VI dirt.
