Re: Help Me Choose New Pickups
P90s are pretty good, I've haven't heard a P90 that wasn't middy and naturally gritty. Also lipstick pickups have a sparkle and chime and usually low output.
Check out a TV Jones style pickup.

Re: Help Me Choose New Pickups
I replaced a Gibson 57 classic with a GFS Surf 90 in the neck of my les paulish guitar and it basically opened up the sound a lot. Higher highs and lower lows without sounding scooped. Basically just a better sound all around.

Yep, from what you said, a P90 is what you are looking for. I tried the Dream 90 many years ago and didn't gel with it though, it felt like a tamed down P90.
Good deals: OsbornKT, Phantasmagorovich, UglyCasanova, DarkAxel, Skip, D.o.S, ColdBrightSunlight, Eivind August, Goroth

Re: Help Me Choose New Pickups
Get those conversion plates and do this. Singles are usually cheaper than humbuckersized stuff, so I'd say get a nice single coil for the neck, like a BLK TRI BKS (http://www.blktri.com/product/black-kni ... ellite-bks) or something and then a humbucker for the bridge. So much winUglyCasanova wrote:Put a single coil in it.

Before you buy new pickups try a higher value volume pot. I love how 1meg pots open up muddy pickups.

Late to this thread but for minimal futzing, Lollar low-wind Imperials would probably suit you very well. Beautiful pickups.
