Recording studios in Midwest
anybody have a good recording experience in the midwest..We are thinking of going into the studio this summer to record some tracks and would like some studio suggestions. Ideally we want to go to electrical audio and work with albini but who has that kind of money laying around!

I highly recommend Shane at Bobby Peru.

He's a super cool guy. Very efficient. He has a ton of gear and knows how to use it. And he doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Trust me, dude. I know it's in a basement, but it looks and feels like a studio and he's super good at what he does. I think Shane recording your band would be perfect. You guys already know each other. I'm sure he would have no problem making an amazing recording of you guys.

Check out Afternoon Records...
Otherwise, Beaners Central here in Duluth has quite the studio in the basement, as well as having a stage up top. I'm sure jason would be glad to hook you up.
I can't remember if Pachyderm Studios is still up and running?

the drummer for my band records with these guys. they have a pretty kick ass studio with a bunch of expensive stuff that frightens and confuses me. the guy who did the first boris yeltsin album works there as well as a couple of other swell guys.
DERP:
this is in missouri
also it's next to a strip club and a liquor store

Chris Koltay in Detroit is supposed to have a really great studio set-up these days: http://www.highbiasrecordings.com/
Site doesn't say much, but everyone I know who's worked with him speaks very highly of the experience. Nice write-up and some pics here: http://www.metrotimes.com/culture/story.asp?id=13422
Added bonus - there's a great BBQ spot right across the street!
