In the fist picture it kinda looks like oscillator? I have no idea why you'd goop it on top of the chip though...

That's the crystal oscillator you need to run the FV1.

Yeah I thought that's what it looked like. Why goop it to the top of the chip though?

Probably to hold it in place. Its a very obvious part so I cant imagine its gooped to hide the part number. The chip to the right that has goop overflow on it is maybe sanded. I peeled off the goop blob and it looks a little rough under there. Possible 555 but I'm not here to trace the circuit. As for actual progress:
You can always count on Dialight to make a ludicrously giant and awesome LED indicator lamp that probably wont fit in the box but that you buy for $12 anyway. Small bear order not in yet so I cant get to any desoldering this evening.

Biggest concern right now is where the boards will get mounted. Its possible that there wont be space to solidly mount the boards and they will have to be taped up. Or a cleaner method would be 1.) small ziploc bags or 2.) large heatshrink sleeves. Anything that keeps them from touching will be fine. May also be Raptio board mounted to the side wall and Freeze board mounted to the bottom plate. Small bear package actually showed up. After some very stressful desoldering, the Raptio boards are in great shape. I lifted a pad on the output for the freeze so I had to tack the wire to the SMD resistor. Not ideal but it should be fine. I was a little overeager with the heat and the PCB quality in EHX stuff is definitely not meant for rework or much hand soldering at all. Now to try and fit it all in the box...

Box layout done. Raptio board will be attached to the side wall. The Freeze board will be mounted to the bottom plate. If I were to do another of these I probably wouldn't bother with even removing the jacks on the freeze. There is plenty of room in the box for them to stay on the board.
However, the smaller Dialight indicator I use on my routing/switching boxes will go in here because the big one is... well... huge. Red knob and LED for the Freeze side to indicate its functions. The Raptio controls are all black. The stock pedal includes an LED that glows under the knob but I omitted it here. Its more or less decorative since the Raptio is only momentary.

Well this is primarily rework rather than a new design of any sort. Take two things and put them in the same box. Try not to break them in the process. While the parts removal and board work is substantial, its still just a matter of looking at the parts, figuring out what all the values, switch types, etc... are, and then doing all the removal/replacement to make everything work.
Im working on a Boss PS2 CV/Modulation add-on project that is much more involved in terms of sourcing rare/obscure parts (balance pots with half-resistance wafers aren't readily available in the US) and also designing a modulation daughter board. That kind of stuff is more difficult from the design/concept angle. This is just rework.
