I really want a Special or a Jr. right now too. I had a 90s Gibson Special a while back, had weird pickups, they looked like P90s but were actually humbuckers, that sounded like really polite single coils.
Sometimes Gibson Jr. and Specials are within the realm of reason, I think I paid 800 for my special. They made a lot of SG Jr.s a couple years ago and sometimes those are for sale 600-800 (I think they were 800 new)
Honestly man...take it from someone who actually bought a $5000 custom shop gibson. I bought an edwards Les paul this year and if you were to change the logo and tell me it was a brand new gibson Id be shocked at how far gibson QC has improved. Edwards are 100% the best gibson clones out there under $1000 and really i just put them in that group because they cost under $1000. They smoke usa gibsons all day long. Also if you want to go single cut you can get one in this sick ass blue color.

Man from the research I've done chinese production has actually ceased and were 100% japanese now. BUT either way what is fully apparent is that edwards guitars are outstanding value and if you don't buy one you are a pussy.

I got a few long term projects for gear I want to wrap up soon, but I'm gonna be chasing a new guitar in the next year.
