Yeah they're out there, but I've done pushed the envelope on asking folks to lend them out, so I stopped. I don't feel like harrassing anyone. If they're cool with it, fine. If not, move along, nothing to see here. That's why now that I have some free time, I'm dreaming up my own "Lion X"-like circuit.

Here's a shot of two of my builds, along with a Schumann PLL, and Two Face.

He vanished (no one knows exactly why but the rumors and whispers aren't/weren't particularly pleasant), attempted a comeback a couple of years ago that never materialized, and vanished again.

I spoke with a tech at Main Drag a while back. The vanishing part is fairly accurate. As for the circumstances, according to the tech, there wasn't really that much drama around it. Like we used to say in the navy, rumours are like assholes... everybody's got one. ;)

I hit his site up years ago when they were going to be making another batch and nothing ever happened with it. I got a "yeah you got one when they come out for sure send us money" and didn't send money because of the whole disappearing thing and here we are.

The clone is really cool, I think I prefer the Noise Swash as an unmusical musical device. I wish it had harmonics and subs though. It would be perfect if it could do that. The PLLone would be cooler if it would rhythmically oscillate in a sensible way.

I think I'll keep both.

John moved in with his folks to take care of them post main-drag and kept building and selling pedals but fell off the grid not long afterwards. Guy would be in his mid 50's by now iirc. The whole 2010 rerelease thing was really nothing more than an attempt to put a dent in the used market. Aside from some completely blown out modified to hell big box dod & ehx pedals he sold or gave out, there was nothing new with the Schumann name on it that you couldn't have picked up when they were sold through main drag.

I'll say this about the lion-x. I'll concur the original lion isn't anything to really write home about (noisey as hell, sluggish, etc. I guess it does sound decent on bass or else trey gunn/Greg burns wouldn't have stood by them.) The lion-x is something else entirely and it's due to the filter circuit(s) in play with the cd4049/llama circuit. In particular the certain ones John chose to use which are derived from a pretty odd source, but very Schumann in comparison to where all the other bits from his other pedals came from. Really just cobbling anderton and other kit layouts together and going from there. I also know the first few lion-x's differ almost entirely from the rest built in regards to the filters used.
