Delay saturation: What do?
In the market for a new analog type delay ever since leaving my MF-104m which I've owned for 3-4 years. The rising cost factor and the fact that I barely used anything more than a little delay and a little modulation made me decide that money was better than the pedal. So I'm on the hunt for a new pedal. I do own 3 boss ps-2's which I often use for longer lo-fi delay type sound but it doesn't do that ambient wash as well as an analog pedal or analog modeling pedal.
I've tried the Boss DM-2w and I liked it quite a bit. Was gonna get that but then I went into a link indunced click-a-thon. Tonal Recall, Caroline Kilobyte, Belle Epoc, Capistan, and like a billion other ones. It's hard to say what I want especially since having an LFO would be nice to get some light modulation going that the DM-2w doesn't have even though I could send an LFO to the expression input prolly no?
What should I try, I have CME although Im not a terribly huge fan. I also have a couple other big shops that stock cool pedals. Lemme know what worth trying out with my limited time!

Re: Delay saturation: What do?
Tonal Recall may be too feature laden? I don't know. It's awesome in all the right ways but simultaneously sort of overwhelming looking.
Unrelated. CME is a cool shop. Can imagine that it has potential to be NEXT LEVEL DOUCHE but it looks fucking cool in there and there is gear galore. At a minimum you can probably go test out a bunch of shit that we all love/talk about here.
Oh.
You could try the Ibanez Echo Shifter -- that pseudo Moog.
I'm drawing a blank on other analog delays with mod right now. I was thinking about EQD Disaster Transport but that's digital emulating analog. It does sound great though.
Hrm.
80tape In Limbo II -- shit gets lots of love.
walrus audio bellwether could be worth taking a look at as well. modulation is on a toggle though.
effects database was helpful - may be worth poking your head around there.

Does it have to be analog? Check out the Mattoverse warble swell delay.

Dude it sounds like you need a Fairfield Meet Maude. Amazing analog delay, warm and luscious with a random modulation section and a compressor in the delay line so that you can play around heaps at the edge of oscillation.
Here's a demo from ya pals at CME:

AND something a little more comprehensive:

I sold my EL Capistan for one and never looked back

Ill look at that database and hope it doesn't overwhelm me, I used to have an echo shifter years ago but that thing broke so fast. I sent it back to them and got a refund. Never wanted to deal with that again. Either way I will look at the disaster transport, I thought that thing was discountinued tho? I never heard of that 80tape. Ill take a look at it also.odontophobia wrote:Tonal Recall may be too feature laden? I don't know. It's awesome in all the right ways but simultaneously sort of overwhelming looking.

CME is cool because it has a lot of stuff but overtime and especially once they moved to the big space, felt more faceless. Plus if you dont know the guys they can be a bit too rockstar for the customers who aren't doing something special. I know some of the guys personally and they are nice enough but they still talk a lot of shit. I generally go to this place Rock N Roll vintage more often. It has a similar amount of cool shit, great synth (synth city as they call it) section, will wheel and deal a bit more liberally, and over just that the guys are still in this stratosphere as far their ego go.
But thats just me tho tho
edit: the limbo sounds way dope and not too expensive

+1 for Maude!
You might also wanna check the delays from Hungry Robot (see JustNick's videos).
And speaking of delay+mod, echo dream 2 is fantastic....

Re: Delay saturation: What do?
I always mean to check out Maude, but I think I was put off cos I read a few people saying either you just couldn't hear it live cos it was too murky or the mod was too extreme and making shit sound out of tune.

Re: Delay saturation: What do?
The Maude's vibrato makes shit sound out of tune in a good way, tho!
That's on the extreme side. You can switch it down on notch for a more standard swirl.
Murky is an accurate description of the actual delay sound. I would not get the Maude if I was wanting a standard DMM-style analog delay. I actually don't think of or use the Maude as a delay. It's like a little cloud generator/atmospheric pulsating pad machine with vibrato.
