Keyboard/synth rec?

I am playing bass in our band, and want to integrate some electric piano/synth stuff in for a different texture. A la Cymbals Eat Guitars or Menomena. I'm not dropping a ton on something to use as a secondary instrument but want something with a lot of sounds and easy to run thru the pedalboard.

Love old shitty used stuff, what recs do you guys have to check out?!

Somewhere around $500

I don't need a Nord stage or anything crazy, just some usable sounds to start with and use fuzz and octave with. Are Roland Juno any good?

If you're looking for versatility at all, I'd suggest an Organelle with an external USB keyboard. The price tag is a little expensive, but I've found so many applications for the Organelle, and it's not just stuck being a synth (FX processing, sampler, MIDI controller, looper, etc. are all alternative functions)

I have a Juno (HS-10) and with the stock presets you'd immediately want to play new wave stuff, like with the Boss RV-3 that makes you play post-rock, or an acoustic guitar and Wonderwall, same effect.

I have edited some presets but it's truly a PITA with the onboard UI, and for a noob like me it's hard to not make it sound like cheesy 80s music.

For $500, full keys, and electric piano sounds, I would recommend the Yamaha MX49.

That has the best piano and EP sounds I've heard in that price range. It has banks for Rhodes, Wurlitzer, harpsichord, grand piano, and the typical string/pad sounds along with electronic sounds. A lot of the YouTube demos show it as a groove/dance synth, but it does orchestral sounds, drawbar organs, and much more (over 1000 total sounds borrowed from the Motif series).
