Re: Your top 5 songs that define music for you.
Pure UnEvil - My favourite song ever...

Moment of Truth - I can't express how much I love this song, every time I listen to it I have to play it twice. First time I heard rap that didn't suck. RIP Guru.

Pattern Against User - Specifically this video, floored when I was in gr. 8, and that guitar...

Cold As Ice - Again, a lot to do with this specific video, so inspiring, perfect mix of electronic and acoustic instruments, Brad is also playing a Bronco
. also introduced me to White Rainbow

Sky's the Ground, Bombs are Plants... - Cemented Ian Williams as one of my favourite musicians ever, this band and lightning bolt caused my love for crazy drum improv over really melodic pieces, and tapping.

I Luv the Valley (OH) - Introduced me to Xiu Xiu/Jamie Stewart, very strange listening to it for the first time, tons of emotion... Jamie Stewart is such an inspiration for me musically.

When Worms Learn to Fly - Again this video has a lot to do with it, love the mix of ambient(ish) stuff with math rock.

The Glow Pt, 2 - Sickest fuzz tones I've ever heard, he and Calvin Johnson are the only singersongwriters that I will listen to.

Let's Wrestle - Tim Kinsella is the titz.

Crimewave - HEALTH got me back into angerierlouderfaster music.

Suddenly Everything has Changed - The lips have been imeasurably influential on me, best stage presence.

Acid Bath - The Bones of Baby Dolls
This song really changed the way I listened/wrote music, at 1:43 that part is a simple chord progression, but what a feeling.
Muddy Waters - Tom Cat
One of the funkiest songs I have ever heard, what a killer groove. I think that whole Electric Mud album was genius.

Amanaz - Green Apple
Some African guys playing some groovy stuff, great riffs, vocals, solos. I expected a more traditional sort of sound, but this is some pretty heavy/fuzzy stuff!

Fugazi - Waiting Room
One of my favorite basslines, and I've been a big fan Ian's stuff since his Minor Threat days. "In My Eyes" would've also been one of my choices.

Hound Dog Taylor - She's Gone
Slide/fuzz bliss.

Definitely a lot more, but this one too...
R.L. Burnside - Goin' Down South
Heard this sound browsing Youtube a long time ago, that led to Junior Kimbrough>The Black Keys>Kenny Brown>Asie Payton...

Re: Your top 5 songs that define music for you.
I can't live with only having one 5 song post. I have to do this:
Roisin Dubh-Thin Lizzy
Supernaut-Black Sabbath
Westron Wynde-John Taverner
Long,Long,Long-the Beatles
Titanium Expose-Sonic Youth
I'll probably post again here soon.

Slowdive - Celia's Dream
Claude Debussy - Prelude to the Afternoon of A Faun
Beatles - A Day in the Life
this question is actually way too hard. I have so many affairs with so many songs.

Re: Your top 5 songs that define music for you.
I told you all this would happen:
Sun Cycle-Blue Cheer
Only Shallow-My Bloody Valentine(it awakened something in me when I saw it on 120 Minutes forever ago)
I am One-Smashing Pumpkins(heard it when I was 13 and got me out of my metal phase)
the entire Everybody Knows this is Nowhere album-Neil Young. I cheated, what?
When the Music's Over-the Doors(lost my virginity to that song, appropriately enough
)
