No-wave/Noise/Spazz Core music suggestions please

Post by chrisdermo »

I've been super into The Locust, Hot Nerds, Holy Molar, Coughs, Aids Wolf, Liars 2nd+3rd albums, Ex Models, Arab on Radar, Mindflayer, Zs etc recently. Just looking for some more recommendations in that 3 One G / Skin Graft vein.

Not been so much into Retox, Blood Brothers, XBXRX, Some Girls, Lake of Dracula, Silver Daggers, Daughters, Head Wound City, or anything that's just guitar/bass/drums/vocals and therefore a bit more standard hardcore/punk/post punk rather than wacky or unsettling.

Preferably stuff that includes odd guitar sounds (ring mod, synth pedals etc), maybe some synths? Drummers that play garbage, dual drummers, synth sounds, saxophone? Manipulated drums and/or vocals like Liars etc.
(If it's old No Wave / industrial I will almost definitely have heard it already, Teenage Jesus, Swans, Blurt, This Heat, The Fall, James Chance, etc)
I guess that means i'm looking for more unknown / DIY stuff? :idk: I got a synth noise punk no wave itch to scratch. HALP.

Lightning Bolt? They're "just" bass, drums and eh.. vocals, but don't really fall into the hardcore territory. They get somewhat Locust-type wacky at times and the bass sounds are pretty WILD

Most of those I'm either not entirely fluent in or don't dig, but....

Black Eyes? Dual drummers, vocals so odd they sound treated?
Morphine? you said saxophones?
Ought? Kinda a NO/Post feel, maybe to 'standard; for what yr looking for?
Consumer Electronics. I'm just going to rec the hell out of them this week, most recent LP is my joint.
Brainiac? New Wet Kojak? Dead C? Sightings? Horse Lords?

Just a head's up: BN's recorded output varies pretty wildly and a lot of it is just noise boxes, no instruments, which isn't really what you're looking for. Check out their album Skulldozer for the sort of stuff in that vid. :)

Sightings and horse lords are awesome too.
I can't listen to consumer electronics without laughing. It's the guy from Whitehouse right? I think it's because his voice is so British I just hear an angry cockney market stall dude '2 bowls a paaaand'. Just me being silly, I do like the aesthetic.

I don't even remember how I found this band or whatever, and I think it fits the No-wave tag. You decide.

This topic is kinda sad for me haha.

Vim crony's the gaze was a little video series that tried to document the la scene 10 years ago(not the best video of the series but there is a special cameo and 400 blows...not going to go through every one of em though):

DNT records was still around last I heard (kind of funny story).

Ummm, read the il corral on Melrose's old bookings...some suggestions there.

USAISAMONSTER, le shok, and Roman Gabriel Todd's beast rising up out of the sea where some I didn't see mentioned.

Bastard Noise is awesome always.

Early Mae Shi with Ezra Buchla maybe? Militant Children's hour? Shearing Pinx. (None of these are endorsement s, just remembering who was around)

John Matrix was playing shows around California at the same time and might remember a bunch I forgot.
