Pretty much.

Modular is cool, just not for me. I find the idea, looks, and sounds to be quite enticing, but it just doesn't fit with my workflow. I tend to enforce strict limitations on what gear I use, in order to wrangle the most out of it, and a modular system would quickly become too overwhelming. That being said, I would love to fuck around with someone else's system sometime.
Let us go on a quest for modular friends.
Next time you're in Canada, hit me up ;)

I'm just waiting for the arrival of President Trump, the annexation of Canada, and the subsequent influx of modular ILFers in our Norse safe haven.

I was interested a long time ago, but it always seemed too expensive compared to pedals and desktop stuff, which are easy to find and plenty of fun anyway. I reached a saturation point with all that though, I was just over the whole noise table thing and frustrated with it and ready for the next level, which is exactly what a nice big euro system looks like from there. By that time (just over a year ago), the cost of entry and keeping up was around what I was paying for Eventide effects and boutique dirt (which was also going euro) anyway, and I was already into 19" rack stuff just for something different. So, I already had the jamstand and the desktop rack, ready to fill, and that just made me feel like I was wasting my time putting off eurorack any longer, and then it was more of a why not than a why. Euro and pedals were starting to cross-pollenate, and I Dream of Wires was on netflix, and there was talk and pix and boners. I sold all the old stuff and don't miss it because I love the new stuff, and I knew I would (important). Turns out you don't really need to worry about saving patches because once you know your modules you can get where you want to be pretty quickly. And really, why not is just as valid of a question as why...because it's there and it's awesome, that's good enough for me.

Some modules have presets, and they are very useful. Modules with changeable functions, like the Roland EFX and Expert Sleepers Disting, make all kinds of patching possible that you couldn't do without them (or whatever modules they're filling in for). If you do start euro it's great to have some modules that can do this asap, because it helps you figure out what you need next basically every step of the way, and it also frees you up to put more weird/cool stuff into the rack so you can have fun while you build. FWIW, with the Roland modules you can save internal synth patches, that you either play with other modules, or that play themselves. My rack is very FX heavy, and has a lot of extra synth power under the hood. It is highly transformable, due to having all 4 Roland modules. It can do decadent drums, huge stereo mixes, deep guitar synth, granular/glitch ambient, space cheese and fuzzcillation freakouts all in one rack, so I am very happy with it and I love it so much more than a table full of pedals and other boxes. I also love being able to process (and mix) a lot of different sounds all at once in different ways and have it all clocked together. The synchronicity is really the biggest reward, just priceless. They say you can never have enough VCAs but you can also never have too many clock sources. Pico Trigg + stackcables = shit getting crazy real fast. There are rack options for everything now, even mixers and samplers, so it really is a great time to do it if you want to.

I'm way late to this party but the idea that I'm really not constrained by limitations and there are so many builders creating so many wild things makes it seem like this is a limitless possibility in the world.

It's also fun, bloop.

I was looking at those Roland modules and they look amazing! They may have shit the bed on every other product release, but those look really well thought out and useful. I wanna get that sampler module of theirs really bad...

I worked with people with aspergers syndrome for a few years (and I have someone close to me with the same diagnosis), and from what I can gather from reading his posts, he seems to fit the bill (or a similar diagnosis, like OCD/some sort of anxiety disorder). My point isn't to poke or make fun of that assumption, as the(/those) diagnosis(/diagnoses) is(/are) suffering from a lot of misconceptions/boarderline mythology, but simply to state that I don't think UG is a man who would fit in a normal job, hence I don't think he is the right person to listen to when it comes to common folk economics (as he has no idea what the fuck he is talking about  ). To add to that, I don't think he is trying to be mean when he states what he does. It's simply seems logical to him.

Burn of the Year 2016.

Would love to get into modular if I had time, money and space. I don't have all that, so I'm thinking it'd only end in me wanting stuff rather than playing/doing things.
actually calling someone autistic as an insult is pretty 2011, cool kids are calling each other "cucks" theses days. but don't think i don't appreciate the effort UC put into that post, his virtue signaling and mental gymnastics is wonderful, pasta is just a little stale :)
