"Noise" bands

Post by ThurberMingus »

So I played my first noise set the other night and I actually had a lot more fun than I thought I would. Anyhow, one of the acts had some really cool rhythmic drones and pulses going on. It made me think that if a band could kind of sync up these crazy sounds and put a beat behind it shit would be super dope. Who are some bands that use noise in a rythmic/melodic way? Or use tabletop rigs as opposed to/in addition to traditional instruments.

Holy Fuck and Animal Collective come to mind, as well as Dan Deacon's earlier material. Health occasionally does some stuff like that too I suppose. What else is put there? I need some proper "noise rock" in my life.

The instruments are too normal, but hot damn still an incredible suggestion!

The guitarist rarely plays riffs. Its all scratchy percussive noises and giant walls of screechy noise.

Look for a live video. But yeah I figured you were looking for something a little more out there.

It reminds me of a band I used to be in, but we were a lot more riffs and I was big into Tera Melos at the time. That's a recording we made basically of a practice once.

Also fucking mobile please make the link go!

the lone album by Brise Glace kinda qualifies...this is one of the more 'musical' tracks...

Lots of sick recommendations so far, but I'd cosign these two for sure:

Can't believe I spaced on saying this heat. Horizontal hold is the noise + drums bible.

Yeah, as mentioned above anything by Mika Vainio. And Neubauten, more their early albums for really noisy things.
Ben Frost, too. some of his music is just beyond brilliant.
Ryoji Ikeda with albums like Supercodex. And many things from the Raster Noton label, too : Carsten Nicolai/Alva Noto, Kandging Ray, etc.
And Fuck Buttons fits the bill. As does the solo project from one of them, Blanck Mass ("Dumb flesh" is a wonderful album).
Holy Fuck did some things that kinda fit too, more on the rock side.
Bad Sector, too.
Many artists from labels like Ant-zen might interest you too. Things like Imminent Starvation for example.
