Re: why why Euro Tits?
I'm just going to ignore the last two pages...
I got into euro because I'm shit at guitar and always have been. I really felt like I hit a wall with the guitar so I started trying out all kinds of other instruments. Banjo and mandolin stuck for awhile, but it was just more of the same. Then I found the Drone Commander and basically started building my pedalboard like a synth. After a while of that I finally took the plunge, sold almost everything, and bought some euro.
I am also more interested in the experimental and sound design side of music and euro definitely speaks to experimentation. I have absolutely no interest in presets or any of the traditional synth ideas. I love being able to route things any way I want and not always being able to recreate something after I've unpatched it. The sounds and the possibilities are endless.
Sure it's fairly expensive, but honestly my 12U, 84hp euro system probably costs far less than a lot of peoples guitar rigs
It's definitely not for everyone, but I absolutely love the chaotic mess of euro

Do you have a regular 9-5 job, though? It's fairly easy to just joke your way out of it with a gifs and some "diss is gittin guud''s, but when it comes down to it, you are privileged, and as a person who is just that you should be able to understand how telling people who bust their asses off to just work more to be a little bit frustrating...unless, you know, I hit the nail on the head with my analysis, daddy's boyUncle Grandfather wrote:guess nerves were hit, honestly not my intentioncarry on, I'm rather enjoying these mean spirited bantz. its a nice change of pace from reading complaints that things are expensive....i KID I KID

o-ok
hey, I don't really care how anyone else chooses to live their life if its making them happy and not harming anyone else. so if heads wanna complain about the cost of essentially luxury items that's fine. if i wanna point out there are ways to earn money to pay for said items that's fine. you wanna read into things, that's fine too
unless...have you figured out some way to earn money that doesn't involve some form of work cause i've had to work for everything I own and wouldn't mind a handout or two tbqh

So, you have a 9-5 job? Working 8-12 hours for minimum wage 6-7 days a week is very different from working 1-2 every other day or less for a lot of money. That's the point I'm trying to make. You telling people who work their asses off and don't have a lot of money to simply work more shows an incredible lack of empathy and massive amounts of ignorance. It's not about "luxury items" to me, it's about the attitude and the kicking downwards. It's just rude, no matter where people are based on their "life choices". Maybe it makes you feel good? I don't know. It just seems a little out-of-charater from the UG I've used to chat with and it makes me sad/angry.

Re: why why Euro Tits?
i work for myself, own my own business and I worked my ass off to get to the point where i. i didn't mean to trigger you man, was trying to be encouraging that yeah even though shit costs money there are ways to make it. that's all, I didn't mean you were too entitled to work at jobs that you feel are below your worth or that indeed you were a lazy fuck. I hustled for extra jobs last two years and have been spreading myself extra thin so I could put together this euro, where there's a will there is a way. stay positive

CV is control voltage, it just a way of using electricity to control other things. There is still audio running through a modular system, just at a different level than a guitar's output. You can get modules that convert the guitar to a more usable level for modular. (from my understanding, I don't actually have modular stuff)

Empty rack cases ain't cheap.
oh. oh hell yeah. i LOVE non standard approaches to noise making. someone in another thread pointed out Bastl (sp?) synth loot, and it is SEXY. i want to get into some of that after i get some other things in household.wfs1234 wrote:Putting Uncle Grandfather's entitled and unrealistic attitude aside....
I'm planning on getting into Eurorack for one reason: it'll give me abilities that I can't have otherwise. I want a synth that's not restricted to the traditional ideas and closeminded approaches most synth users take towards synths, i.e. full-sized keys and wanting everything to sound like a synth from the 70's.
Because you're essentially going the "boutique" route, you aren't going to be able to do some of the things a mainstream synth can do (presets, polyphony). The more I think about that the more frustrated I am with synths in general. Because going with a eurorack system does mean sacrificing lots of those things that make it easier to play. But sticking with traditional synths has lots of other restrictions....
Idk, I'm still a bit torn on it. I plan on getting a Pittsburgh Lifeforms to play with next year to get a taste of how it compares, and maybe expanding into video synthesis if I end up really liking it.
i still don't think it's for me, but your words, your sexy buttery little words, make me want to get a little setup to play with.

Re: why why Euro Tits?
There are a couple ways to integrate a guitar into a euro system. I use an Xaoc Sewastopol and/or a Mutable/Music Thing Ears. Both are input devices and envelope followers, i.e., an input device brings the audio signal of the guitar into the modular and an envelope follower takes a high-frequency signal (guitar) and provides an output which is the envelope of the original signal.moid wrote:Well that sounded rather fabulousUglyCasanova wrote:The only thing that interests me about is playing my guitar through it. Check out thereisonlyfuzz on instagram for clips: https://www.instagram.com/p/BMFAv_mhsWq/Can I ask an odd question (well I'm going to anyway). Are those sounds controlled by the guitar? And if so, how? My limited understanding of synths is that control voltage is used to generate the sounds, but can you plug a guitar into one of these devices (like an effects pedal) and get it to modulate / weird out the guitar sound? I thought CV and audio was something different (happy to be wrong here, my technical knowledge is weak).

So, you can use an input device to bring the guitar signal into the modular environment, which you could then effect or manipulate however you like or you can use the envelope follower to use your guitar playing dynamics to control parts of the modular
Edit: CV and audio are different, but similar signals in a few ways. Someone correct me if I'm wrong (because I definitely could be) but audio is generally 10Vpp AC signals and higher frequency, while CV is generally 5Vpp DC signals and lower voltage. However, a lot of the time, audio can be used as CV.
