I have been eying a boss ls-2 as of late and want to get a cheap mixer or two around to practice some creative routing.
Also the idea of a matrix mixer is pretty cool.
One idea I had was a ls2 and start and end or chain so you could loop back loops into your board. But at that point I'm not sure if it would be one big feedback loop or what.
Any creative routing techniques you guys use?

Pladask Elektrisk Matrise looks pretty amazing

Personally I don't really route other than on my tabletop, where I use this five-channel mixer with a simple boost by Hypnodrone. So I can have my synths, drums, drones etc head to one amp or PA.

MATRISE is an active tabletop matrix mixer sporting four inputs, four outputs, sixteen level adjustment knobs and individual polarity switches for each of the four output channels. This makes for a powerful tool to experiment with signal routing and feedback loops. Among other things the device can be used to run parallel effectloops or amplifiers, add a clean-blend to an effect, or regenerate effects or even the mixer itself. A matrix mixer is a signalmixer with multiple inputs and outputs, where any input can be routed to any output, hence the name “Matrix”.

Re: Coolest routing effects
I have a Zvex Loop Gate, it's great. The loop is on always, used with a reversed ABY box I can route a synth or mixer into the board without losing the guitar. Plus a stereo pedal in the loop lets me have different dirt and reverb on each amp.
The gate function I use mostly for the chop trem, sometimes as a noise gate if necessary. Haven't messed too much with the mix function, because I don't have a looper or other continuous sound source in the loop, and with two amps that would probably not be as effective anyway.

Not an effect, but a routing tool for sure. I've been using the old 360 Systems AM16 audio matrix crosspoint switchers for several years now. 16 inputs, 16 outputs, routing configurable in any way you can dream up, with MIDI control. You create the routing chain, assign it a patch number, and save it to memory. I just wish the buffers were a bit better, but regardless, with careful arrangement, a formitable tool. What's fun here is that you can create a chain of effects on one patch, and then create another with the same effects, but in a different order. 100 patch programs available, absolutely no audio bleed through, and silent switching. I have three of them, but their getting damn hard to find. Plug in your favorite effects, and route away. Rush used a bunch of these back in the early days.

I still do, but I used to, too.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.
