I'm curious how you like the AC4 compared to the AC15. I've been looking at AC15 or 30 for years and never pull the trigger. Played my buddies AC4 at practice because the internet said it is "shockingly loud." Turns out that it really wasn't. At least not with other people around.
This is as good a time as any to play this game since I haven't been flipping much lately.

AC15s are amazing, and DEFINITELY pull the trigger if you ever see one of the rare 2x10s. I believe they were made in the 90s. Anyway, BEST overdrive sound--dimed it's just saturated enough, but maintains this beautiful sense of clarity.
I passed one up and my friend bought it instead. Been a little bummed about it ever since, haha.

Rad. Yeah my micro terror is loud enough through a big cab, but the sound is a little too thick and muddy for what we're doing. I'm thinking an ac15 through a bigger cab should do well.

Re: How much of a hoarder are you? List the gear you own!
I actually never AB'd them as the AC15 is still at my parents' house and the AC4 is in my appartment. I would say the AC4 is perhaps a bit boxier than the AC15 but I like both and I like how easily you can push the AC4. The small one is plenty loud for bedroom use but I can imagine it falling short for practice. Definitely if you need it to stay clean-ish.PeteeBee wrote:I'm curious how you like the AC4 compared to the AC15. I've been looking at AC15 or 30 for years and never pull the trigger. It's great, a little bit of a pain to setup, but I bought it in pretty rough shape. There are 2 different models and mine is the cheaper of the 2. Very playable after being set up nicely though. Heavy, but playable. I did completely redo the electronics, so I couldn't tell you about the stock stuff. And I've never really played anything else with an aluminum neck, so I could not tell you how it compares.odontophobia wrote:yo DRod how's that hartke bass? I always see them kickin' around reverb or ebay and wonder at their playability. have you compared it to any of the other aluminum necked stuff?
Totally know where you're coming from, that's why I actually sold some stuff this year. I need to start selling guitars, but I know I'm never going to get back what I've put into them and that makes me sad.popvulture wrote:Haha, right? This is exactly how I felt tallying up my stuff, and ultimately just had to stick with pedals, as cataloguing all of my gear would be too depressing. I always say that the reason I haven't traveled in forever is because I've been spending the last roughly fifteen years weighing "a few thousand bucks for a trip to ______ or a guitar?" time after time.
Selling off a bunch of shit this year, specifically to remedy that.

This is me, 100%. Selling pedals is pretty easy for me, but guitars... not at all. It's a bit hokey to say, but I just have much more of a connection with them and get very sentimental. Also when you end up taking a hit financially, it feels horrible; I've done a pretty ok job about investing in guitars that will appreciate in value, but unexpected things (like the 2008 financial crisis) can fuck everything up in a flash. For example, I have a '74 LP Special that is now worth less than what I paid for it, and after trying to sell it this year at a lower price but finding no takers, I decided to say fuck it and keep it / play it more.DRodriguez wrote:odontophobia wrote:I need to start selling guitars, but I know I'm never going to get back what I've put into them and that makes me sad.

That's unfortunate about the LP. At least you're playing that rad piece of kit again.popvulture wrote:This is me, 100%. Selling pedals is pretty easy for me, but guitars... not at all. I go into my project guitars as more of a challenge than a money thing. I kind of think it's awesome taking a junker and making into a stealthy rocker or into something that unique. So I have a couple nice guitars, the rest are ugly or boring things that only a select few would love. It's more an emotional issue than a money one, but it hurts knowing that I wont get proper compensation for my weird attachments to my things.
