Thanks vid!
Yeah shapeshift looks pretty amazeballs, is the lack of blend a deal killer or does it just mean subtle is out the fucking window?

Happiness is definitely on my radar.
Given that it seems like an abundance of crazy filter pedals have come out recently it's getting tough to make decisions.

I though the Shape Shift did have a blend? I can't remember now. It's fucking great man! I regret the hell out of selling mine. One of many, many pedals I'm hoping to rebuy down the road.

I'd also love to to give the Happiness a go. I had a chance and didn't. The ARF is fucking great too! A second version is coming out I believe, but I could be mistaken.

Yeah I looked at the ARF but the other features on the Happiness was just more appealing to me.

The Source Audio Reflex was marketed as allowing user generated waveforms, and they still haven't materialized. Every once in a while I will bug the owner about it, and he says they are still planned, so it might be something to keep an eye on. Also the Goatkeeper I believe allows user made waveforms for pedals that don't mind +5CV. Also I didn't like any of the filters in the ModFactor but I believe you can dial in something close to the LFO shape you want by setting up a secondary modulation source that acts on the LFO.

What about Lightning Wave? Didn't they make sort of a "make your own LFO wave" pedal thing? If you could run that into the CV in of a filter pedal, you could do whatever you want....Unless I'm remembering it all wrong...

I think that's correct^

There's also a module that allows you to draw waveforms by hand on it. I'm blanking on the name but UG has some.

It seems like this year truly is the year of the filter. Really contemplating a happiness too. I generally dislike stuff with predictable LFOs and get bored pretty quickly with modulation, but these things are really grabbing my attention

Yeah man, I've always dismissed filters but so many great options and features have come out lately it's like an awakening into, "holy shift, there is a hole microverse to this effect and it doesn't have to suck!"

UC, yeah there's a "blank" lightning wave, you can load your own modules into it, but I have no idea if you could use it to draw an waveform and then send it CV out with a module.

If so...you're a genius.

DoS, I know the one you mean but fucked if I can recall it's name, either.

It should send it out even without a guitar effect. Separate things (control board just sends cv...the effect board comes off the 3dpt like normal with an added buss for cv)...plus cv stays on when the effect is bypassed. Lightning wave stuff is very well done.

D.o.S., MengQi Hand...but it isn't as precise as the lightning wave i wouldn't think...it's an envelope follower and recorder off a contact mic.

I was also thinking for non resonant kinda filtering, snazzy Divine Hammer. Somewhere in there is some filtering, though it is mostly some form of tremolo/preamp.

I think most of the univibe's waveform is from the slow, uneven response of an incandescent bulb and photo resistors. Try out some bulbs and different photo resistors taped together with the resistor going into the exp in of a filter. The old Morley light based lfos are kinda uneven like that.

And gristleizer

The bolded part is exactly how I kinda feel. Might've been a cause of all previous filter demos was all funk stuff and really boring shit, but lately some really cool stuff has happened. I think for me it started with Knobs happiness demo, or that vid got his shapeshift mountain.

That protostar sounds really cool too. Damn, so many choices all of a sudden. Oh well, I'm pedging until christmas is over anyway

Any recommendations for filters that don't do the mutron thing or the wah thing? I was thinking MF Drive, but I really want the filter from my microbrute in a pedal

First thoughts:

Koma ft-201
Basic Peak Freq
Copilot has some options
Moog MF-101

Just get a Steiner filter built into a pedal. I'm sure somebody like make sounds loudly would do it.

http://yusynth.net/Modular/EN/STEINERVCF/

CGS prints boards for them and let makes a eurorack kit that is reasonably priced. You would just need a power supply and possibly some modulation.

http://www.cgs.synth.net/modules/cgs35_syntha_vcf.html

I've ran a few diy modular circuits with 2 9v batteries...but it may not work for everything and a basic power supply may not be the hardest thing to diy (just need enough ma and voltage off a wall wart AC supply).

Mutron Micro V has way less of an envelope to it than things like a q-tron. Some of the maxons, if you play right, the envelope sweep can be controled too (the fire blade was fairly easy). Mode machines made standalone wasp and juno filters for a while.
